When did this issue began? Was there any power flicker? What have you tried so far? Is the computer tower power light stays solid green or not (please specify)? Is the computer monitor power light stays solid green or not (please specify)? There are 4 little led lights at the back of your dell computer or in front, tell me their status when the computer is turned on. Tell me the service tag number of your Dell computer, look at the back you should see there Service Tag Number or at the top of your computer tower.

Hello,
Check your fans o see if they are running and if the PC isn't getting too hot because that will cause it to stop and not boot up.

I recently moved and when i hooked all of it back

open it up check all the connections memory and add in cards for security.
connect it and try again. Sometimes the bios battery can cause wierd problems, they are usually a 2032 battery on the motherboard. replace it if it's suspect. I would then look at the power supply. Big heavy capitors don't like being dropped, (neither do hard drives for that matter).

Dimension 8400 will not boot and more.......

I would recommend testing the power supply as Dell PS's are not known to be "forever". A power supply tester can be purchased online at Tigerdirect.com for around $20 and they are fairly easy to use (you can also get a new PS there if necessary). If that is not it, I recommend going to a local small computer shop and picking up a used Hard Drive (be sure to get SATA), and switch it for your main HDD,, if the PC starts up and goes to an "Error no OS found" or the ilk, the culprit is your hard drive. I am in CT and fix PC's for a living, I am A+ certified and have passed all the dell Factory Cert tests. If you need help and are in the area or work well over the phone,, let me know I CAN solve this problem.

Have maxtor 40gb hd want to add 2nd WD hd in DEll dim8200

(if both drives on the same cable):
Your boot drive goes at the end of the primary data cable.
Your second drive goes on the middle connection of the same cable.
The red stripe on the data cable needs to be closest to the power connection (red stripe to pin 1).
The jumper on the boot drive set to master.
The jumper on the second drive set to slave.
Look in the BIOS to make sure it sees both harddrives.
Boot the system.. it will need to be partitioned and formatted if not already..
Regards..

C840 will not boot up

Quick power off means a hardware fault. Remove the memory sticks and boot the laptop. If you get an error message, the memory sticks are bad. Replace them. If it still doesn't boot to BIOS, your motherboard has failed and needs to be replaced. It can't be "repaired" cost-effectively. And since the Inspiron C840 is a very old laptop, probably not worth fixing. You CAN get your data off the hard drive by slaving it to another computer. Google " hooking up an external hard drive".

Hard drive replacement w/system restore disc

After installing the new hard drive, you'll need to boot the computer from the recovery disk and follow the instructions to format the drive and install windows. You'll also need to install drivers from the driver disk after Windows is up and running. If the computer won't boot from the recovery disk, you'll need to access the "setup" utility and set the CDROM drive as the first boot device. To access the setup utility, press the Delete key after turning on the power. I hope this helps!
