When i put a game in my 360 it says play dvd then goes to. please put disk in 360. what can i do
Mine was doing the same thing adnd i dident want to take apart my box so what i did was take two Q-tips and take one end off each one of them and i used electric tape to tape the two bald end together and if you leave your tray open just a bit you can see the lazer wet one end down with rubbing ALC clean the lense i got all kinds of red gunk off and now my cd drive works every time hope this helps
First off, try the obvious, clean the lens with an insertable disc cleaner. If that doesn't work, you'll have to crack the case, open the drive and clean it gently with a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol. If that STILL doesn't work, then you will have to order a new drive or replacement lens. You can find them on Ebay all day long

I have a brand new Xbox I just got today & It does the same thing!
It only seems to be the Elite models that have this problem
I played last at 12am and woke up at 9am and turned the 360 and the disc unreadable came up. So I did what I always do which is cleaning the disc and tray and put it back in and it still came up. So I put in another game and same problem. Then I tried a game that hasnt been opened and it still did it. I have had my xbox for 3 months and used it quite frequently, when it works its great but their is way to many screw ups with this system.
I think microsoft screwed up. I have been to several sites and read somewhere about a time slot of 3-5 months of haveing a 360 and it end up saying unreadable or unplayable and sometimes open-tray. I have bought 2 360's within an eight month period. And both times within 3-5 months this happened. I keep buying new ones cause it costs me 150 bux to get it repaired or so I was told. 360's are great and all but so unrealiable. My nintendo 64 still works and banjo is still playable. Must we go back to game paks. Cause these discs are unreliable. Oh and all I can do is play stupid demos.
