No sound from speakers, but there is power to amp

The vehicle was already wired in for speakers/amp previously. I bought the MTX X702 amp to replace the existing amp. I have power to the amp, but no sound from speakers. I adjusted the gain control with still no sound. Speaker wire is good, connection is good, speakers are brand new, volume is up on the radio. I thought there was a red LED and now it's a flashing green. The manual states nothing about what the lights flashing mean.

Make sure the power wire and the remote wire have voltage. at least 12 volts. make sure the ground wire is good and has a good solid ground. after that make sure the rca cables are getting signal from the radio. if you have a small speaker or tweeter you can touch the wires from the speaker to the rca cables and it should play music very quietly. meter the subs and make sure theyre ok and not shorted or bad. if all that checks out good.... the amp is probably bad. start with all the simple stuff and work youre way up. if the amp has good power and signal and good speakers then the only thing thats left is the amp. good luck

One thing to remember about most radios, the RCA pre amp circuit will still work even if the mosfet power amp inside the radio does not. The best way to know if the amp inside the radio works is to use one matching color pair coming off the radio to wire up a random speaker right to the radio. You can use just about any old random 4 ohm speaker that is laying around to check it. The best solution if the amp inside the radio is blown is to replace the radio or amp the pre amp outputs with a small 4 channel amp. Oh, by the way. What vehicle are you connecting this into? And does the vehicle say Bose, Infinity, or ect sound or Premium sound? These usually denote a factory amplifyer already onboard and requires special connections to get the signal to these amps to then be delivered to the speakers.

You may have touching speaker leads going into the amp. Make sure the tinsel is not touching across the speaker inputs on the amp. Also check your ground. It should be solidly connected to the vehicle chassis in a paint-free location. Finally, make sure there are no exposed speaker wires touching the vehicle chassis.

Hello tonytone54, The ground should go directly to the vehicle frame, never through a cap, fuse, or anything else. Also, if you are connecting positive through a cap, make sure that you charge the cap before connecting it. Hope this helps.

Subwoofers won't work and they are brand new

Hello,

I've got a pair of these MTX's subs powered from a Fusion 450 watt 2-channel amp. For the price, they are great. By the way, they are 4-ohm.

My first suspicion would be that something in the first incorrect wiring damaged either the amp or the subs. Can you explain specifically what the "installing the subs incorrectly" means? Was the amp output shorted out at any time or was it operated without a load? Either of these conditions will fry an amp and sometimes, the protection circuitry doesn't work either.

First make sure that your amp is still working. Check both the primary power fuse, usually located near the vehicle battery, and the fuses on both sides of the amp. Make sure that when you turn the system on, the power light comes on steady (blinking is protection mode). Test your subs one at a time on a speaker output.

THUNDER 5601 WHEN VEHICLE TURNED ON, SUBS BOOM, THEN WORKS OK. ALSO WHEN RADIO TURNED OFF

If the amp produces no boom with no signal input cables connected, I'd suggest using an LOC.

Best wiring method

Actually, the way they're wired they're already bridged in parallel. The way they're "jumpered" They all get the same amount of voltage and pull more current from your amp. If you wire them in series, each speaker only gets 1/3 the input voltage, and in turn, the entire circuit of 3 speakers uses less current from the amp, meaning less wattage. Having them wired in series will cause less wear and tear on your amp, but you'll not be pleased with the output. It'll be very weak. Try it. You'll notice the difference right away. The way they're wired is the way they're probably supposed to be from mtx, and the speakers probably have a higher resistance, which means they work best when bridged parallel in threes. Your amp is already taking all the punishment thease speakers can suck through it in this setup. If your amp is running cool, you shouldn't have any problems. Hope this helps.

Confused

Hi jimmyjames,

How do you have the wires hooked from the sony reciever to the inputs on the mtx?

Sounds like your Remote wire is way too big. it should be 14 guage.  It only sends a low voltage low amp signal.

Another thing that could be messing up the sounds is the routing of the wires.  you should have the power supply wires separate from the Audiop signal wiring.  Power should run down the Driver side and Audio down the passenger side.

When you answer I may be able to tell you more.
