Mine seems to be doing the same. Sometimes there's overexposure and other times underexposure. I can't seem to find a reason as I've tried troubleshooting the same object under the same conditions and getting various results.Mine seems to be doing the same. have you tried using lithium batteries? alkaline batteries. just try out different batteries. if it is still the same, have your camera checked in a service center for maybe it needs a replacement or there is something loose inside.

It's possible some debris has gotten under the pad that would activate that button. My first try would be a direct blast of air from a pressurized can of duster. Sometimes it may take several shots from different angles. if this doesn't solve the issue it may be hardware related and would require a technician.
I had the same problem but byt turning the camera on and off while pressing the sutter button gave me the option of custom reset setting and it is now working beautifully
The problem you are describing is a problem with one of the chips in the camera that controls image processing. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.
Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $78 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.
This suggests the flash capacitor has malfunctioned Check Olympus for a warranty replacement or repair cost- according to age of camera. If it is an older model a new camera may be best bet
It is something that seems to be a problem with the Stylus 410s. Olympus will not repair them unless they are under warrenty, I've tried. My best advice, and what I am in the midst of myself (I have 2 of these with the same problem) is to file with the BBB. Perhaps if enough complaints come through, they will begin to fix the stylus 410 defect as they should. Good luck. =)
i have the same problem. i dont think the flash is working.. i think the bulb needs replacing. i wish i knew a place to get it fixed or a place to buy a bulb...
e “shoot and select” modes allows you to select an image out of a sequence of still pictures you have taken by depressing the shutter button and storing it. This is best for shooting moving objects.
SHOOT & SELECT 1: Shoots a rapid succession of 4 still pictures by keeping the shutter button pressed.
SHOOT & SELECT 2: Shoots a succession of still pictures by keeping the shutter button pressed. The Stylus 500 will continue to shoot until you take your finger off the shutter button or until the card is full. After shooting, you will have the option to immediately delete the pictures you do not wish to keep.
Press the QUICK VIEW button.
The last picture taken is displayed. Use the arrow pad to display other pictures.
Press the QUICK VIEW button again when you are ready to take another picture.
Using the Mode Dial
Turn the mode dial to the playback option (the green arrow).
Use the arrow pad to navigate to your picture of choice.
