About six months ago, my GE XL44 gas range (purchased Dec 2002) started showing signs that it's not maintaining the oven temp I set. I tried running the self-clean cycle, but that didn't change anything. When I want to bake something at say 400 degrees, I have to keep re-starting the oven (resetting the temp to 400 numerous times) while it loses 10 to 30 degrees every few minutes--this is of course without ever opening the door.

Have your oven ignitor checked. If they do not get hot enough quick enough the oven will light intermit. Usually when it does light you will often get a scent of gas or a poof. If that's the case, change the ignitor

Oven temp probe needs replacing

If it is a ge it would have a glow bar ignitor, either a flat rectangle shaped or a round ignitor. That is want the problem is 95% of the time. It is pretty easy to do. The floor of the stove will come right out and it probably has two screws in the back corners you can see. Remove them and the floor will lift out and you can see the burner and the ignitor.

The oven sensor ( WB21X5301) is suppose to tell the oven control when to turn on and off to reach and maintain oven temp, but before you go replacing it, try to observe how long it takes from the time you turn the oven on to the time the oven ignites. Ignition should be 30 seconds to about 90 seconds. If it is taking a very long time, replace the igniter (
WB2X9154
). Ignitors get weaker over time, and this should be looked at first, as both parts are not real cheap, so you don't want to just start throwing parts at it. Here is a trick you can try: On the JGBP90 (model you posted under) the broil ignitor is the same part number as the oven ignitor, so if the broiler, which is generally used much less than the oven, is working fine you can interchange the two ignitors to see if that solves your oven temp problem without having to buy a oven temp sensor first.

Replace the electric ignitor, I did today... Temps are hotter than ever. $60 from an appliance suplier, easy to install.... Trust me

I have the exact problem. We had the ignitor replaced 2 already and it works for 18 months and stops. Occasionally, it the oven won't even start to heat. I am ready to throw it out.
