Same TV, same problem, SONY TRINITRON KV32HS500...won't turn on...stand by light blinking 7 times...it turned on eventually and then after turned off wouldn't do it for weeks...yadda yadda...it's been weeks!! since the last time. I've done EVERITHYNG in the book, I started by calling Sony and after following their steps nothing happend. I even asked(after hearing others with the same issue) if this TV had a recall or a manufacture deffect, of course they said NO, which after reading ALL this postings I find very hard to beleive...I called 3 repair centers, 2 Sony authorized, and one local. The estimate price is anywhere between $300+ to $600+, depending upon the "flyback" or "conection board" needing only a repair or a replacement...Now, is this worth the money, time and effort???? after reading that some people had gone through that route only to have the SAME problem later and be out few hundreds $$,I conclude it is NOT. The warranty for this repair is only up to 90 days best case scenario...I appreciate if the people form FIXYA, had an input, but honestly in my case this is just for venting. It is a shame that SONY doesn't own up to their products when is clear that this is a manufacture problem or al least, just a aweful quality product...I just wanted to thank you for your postings, beacuse today I decided NOT to repair this "art work", you saved me few hundred bucks and more frustration. One thing is clear though, I will NEVER buy another SONY PRODUCT....feewwww I feel better now!!
Sue Sony!
I also have a Sony KV-32HS500 that has been suffering from the now synonymous five years = dead TV syndrome.
It first appeared around a week ago with the TV requiring attempts to turn on with standby light blinking 7 times in between, but would remain on once started. As mentioned the Sony sight is embarrassingly sparse with any real information about a remedy. Has anybody approached Sony customer service with any of this?
I agee, I am sure there is a problem with a component failure on the D board. It is to bad there has not been a re-call, but not surpising, the bottom line is just to important for that kind or customer service...........
If the seven flashes are repeating, it means "Horizontal Deflection
Stopped". The horizontal deflection circuitry is on the D board.
as far as sony as a company when i was a service center there was not a company that even came close to there help in getting help and getting parts, all companys have problems with failing parts and just like car i would never purchase the first model year! wait a few years to get the bugs and problems resolved. if Sony finds enough problems with a set they usually do a recall. or fix.
I have this problem too right now.. what I did is disconnect the tv from the surge protector for 2 days then reconnected directly to wall. and it turned on! I will just leave tv on until I can afford to buy a new tv set. If I ever have to turn it off and turn it back on. i know this has worked twice already!
I had the same problem-- for the first time-- today. I immediately Googled the issue, and found this website posting. I may be more fortunate than others... I simply waited about 10 minutes, and tried the power button again... and the TV came on this time!!! Weird, but just wanted to post this in case it helps others. Let the TV rest then try again later before you get overly-concerned.

kv32hs500 HDTV.... It was working perfectly this morning! Turned it off and went to the store and came back about 2 hours later. I turned on, sounded like it was going to start as usual. No picture, no sound and the STAND-BY light is blinking 7 times.
I unplugged, waited 4 minutes, plugged back in... blinking 6 times. Tried again and began blinking 5 times! Boy... this baby is CONFUSED!
I tried plugging it directly into the wall not the surge protector it usually uses. SAME....... blinks 7 times!
After reading your posted PROBLEMS with this model... sounds like they are made to self destruct at 4 to 5 years! Anything I can do beside call a TECH and PRAY?
Thanks,
Sandi ;O)
Tuscany needs to learn how to spell. There is an extra "r" on the end of the word. It is spelled "manufacturer."
I have the same 7-blink situation. My TV is only 3 years old.
Sony products used to be high-quality.
I'll never buy another Sony product. The (expensive) Sony sound system in my boat has also failed after 18 months. It is not operated in or near salt water.
I have the EXACT same problem!!!! I've had my T.V. for 5 years. I thought before calling an authorized service agent I'd see if anyone else in cyber space had the same issue. It sounds to me that it is and that Sony needs to issue a recall. Money is tight for our family right now and spending $300-600 would be difficult. For what I paid for the T.V. and how long I've had it, I should not be having problems!!!!!!!!!!!
standby light flashes 7 times and there is no picture and no sound.
Add me to the list. I have a KV32HS500 that is in the garage waiting for the recycler.
we've had the same problem on and off (forgive the pun) for about a year. when i try to turn it on now, it currently is just blinking (between 5 and 7 blinks) then turns off. Very frustrating, and tv is too heavy to consider bringing it somewhere to make it worthwhile. we're moving on to another brand.
I have the same trouble. 6 and 7 blinks.
not quite 5 years old -- very same problem -- 7 blinks -- with new connection board repair would cost $500. not worth fixing. won't buy another sony tv.
broken record -- same problem -- 5 years old -- 7 blinks, turned on intermittently for a while, but no more. Â would cost $500 to replace the connection board (paid $65 for the repair guy to come out and tell me this). Â my brother-in-law had the same problem. Â two more KV32HS500's for the landfill. Â any lawyer's reading these posts? Â good candidate for a class action, don't you think?
Ours did the same thing last week. Â 7 blinks and would not turn on. Â Left it unplugged overnight and it worked for 6 days before it did it again. Â Thanks Sony! Â Great product. Â I'll be sure to tell all my friends.
I cannot believe my eyes. Â I have had min KV-32HS500 for the dreaded 5 years. Â I have 7 blinks. Â Same exact problem. Â For $600 bucks I might as well just get a new set. Â And people wonder why the economy is taking a dive!
All I get is 7 blinks and thats it. Because the set weighs 200 pounds it not easy to load in the van and take it to a repair shop. I called a serviceman to see what the cost would be to come out and fix it, he says $120 to come out and diagnose the problem, I live 10 miles from him. After see what the others here are paying for repair this is just NOT cost effective at all. So much for Sony, it's no better than anything else out there. I plan to buy something new on sale and cheap, I don't care if it's made in Somalia by some short order cook. If it works for 2-3 years before it takes a **** on me I can just cram it in the Herby Kirby and get another cheapo. I was a Sony fan with a desktop, laptop and TV but NOT anymore. Hello Samsung...lol
Same thing. Paid over $1200 for this tv about 5 years ago & a few months back, it would not turn on for days at a time & now it won't turn on at all. The light usually blinks 7 times, but sometimes it will blink 6 times. We have tried everything - unplugging it from surge protector & directly into wall. Plugging it into a different outlet all together. NOTHING that we do will get this thing back on. I thought I liked Sony products, but seeing how widespread this issue appears to be, I don't think I will be recommending them to anyone ever again. (Even though this tv had the best internal speaker system i'd ever heard...)
Yet another bites the dust. My Sony KV-32HS500 started to act this way last week. Â Now it will not turn on at all.. Isn't that blinking led annoying.
It as if Sony expected this and is just p*ssing me off some more, knowing they might get some more money out of me for this white elephant.
Does anyone know a site that had the schematics for the set and/or assembly diagram? Â Really don't like ripping apart on, especially with a the CRT so large. Â Thxs for any help.
Same problem with mine. Went to turn it on and only got the 7 blinks and a pause then repeated. Unplugged it for 2 days, it then turned back on and I left it on all night. Turned it off and now nothing. I had the guys from Emergency TV Service come out and they said it was these two chips on a board. It will cost $200. I see on another post that kind of repair probably won't last. So I just gave up and purchased a new Samsung 37" 1080. They are rated #1 for 40" and smaller. LG is rated #1 for larger units but right behind Samsung for the smaller ones. Sorry, I just gave up. Maybe Craigs List or eBay is the answer as to what to do to dispose of this heavy monster. Good Luck guys.
