Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

GE Spacemaker JVM1533BD Issues

Have one of these dated 2002. Occasionally the turntable will not turn and when this happens, it does not heat the contents. I've narrowed the problem down to something that is tripped when the door is closed because if its acting up and I wiggle the door or open it slightly and leave it move back into the closed position it starts to operate fine. I know there is some sort of switch in there at least on the bottom latch hole, as I can push it with a pencil and hear it clicking. Does the top hole have a second switch, If so I'm not hearing any clicking? Anyway, I'm looking at the parts diagram, and I am not sure if I need to replace the Switch or the Switch Monitor. Also, how are these parts accessed, do I need to drop the unit to a table, or can it be done while the unit is hanging. If I do need to drop he unit how is the cover removed. Thanks

Thanks for the input. Yes, the latches on my model are one unit and they are sprung. I can use a small wood dowel to push into the lower latch opening and can feel resistance and hear the switch clicking. The upper hole has nothing, no resistance and no click. They even look different inside on general observation. I would unmount the unit and remove the main cover if I were to try a repair.

a month ago the unit would come just sit there until we push up on the door and then it runs.

You are describing a typical Door Switch mis-alignment, or failure. Some door switches "Click" other do not.
#1. Does the two finger-like latches on the Door have a spring effect? They should have in order to set the Door Switches when door is closed.
#3. In order to get to the Door Switches the Control Panel must be removed, or the unit taken down and the outer Cover removed. Now, this is the point where I tell you if you have never removed a Control Panel before DON'T!! without experienced help. You can damage the Control Panel, Panel Circuit Board, or other adjacent components that would cost more to replace than the unit is worth. Call around and ask for estimates for this repair. Also ask if you bring it in what would the savings be.

MadDog. After removing cover, locate switches. Open and close door while watching for any movement of the switches. Sometimes the Switch Mounting Screws become loose, and the switch does not close. Watch the switch mounting screws while opening and closeing the door. Any movement means the switch is loose.

There are several switches or a Door Safety Switch/ Light/Run/Switch Module. If Switch/Module Mounting Screws were loose, They can be adjusted and screws tightened. If they are not loose, or otherwise moving then you have a defective Door Switch/Module.

Why does my ge spacemaker jvm1740dd1cc no longer heats and the turntable does not work?

Bad door switch. Look for burnt terminals on one of the door switches. Replace the switch and cut off the burnt terminals and splice on new ones.

My spacemaker 2.0 pvm2070dmww microwave is not heating and the turntable is not turning everything else is working fine.

The problem is more than likely a bad door switch, a digital meter is the best option for testing to find the defective one. If you have one post back for instructions or have serviceman repair it.

Issues with GE Spacesaver Model JVM1533D002

Yes, the door switches need to be either adjusted or replaced. Will require dismounting it and taking off the cover which is about ten screws around it rear and side edges.
Hope Ya Fix it.
