Zippy USB external hard disk case (2.5

I bought a new Seagate ST9120822A 2.5" 120GB hard disk, with Zippys external USB casing. When I connected to my usb port, it says "A high speed USB device is plugged into a non-HI-SPEED usb hub."
Then the disk is not shown in the disks list in explorer.

I am using Windows XP.

I know this is an old thread, however if it helps any one try this:
Zippys power supply failed for me also. The problem here is your case support USB 2.0 ("A high speed USB device") and your port is only USB 1.1 ("plugged into a non-HI-SPEED usb hub"). This will not give adequate power to the drive. So use a y-cable (http://www.toshibadirect.com/images/ui3/accessories/toshiba-usb-y-cable-ba82010-300.gif) and connect one end to your casing and the two pins at the other end should be connected to two USB ports. (get it at http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/adet.to?poid=438342).
Another costlier way is to upgrade to USB 2.0 by a card like this http://www.belkin.com/support/download/download.asp?category=1&lang=1&mode=
or even better a USB 3.0 card : http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=lGYmelQ8mJvPtYTv

USB port broke off. Can I connect to something else to get the data off the drive? I cracked open the case and it's a barracuda 7200 but I don't recognize the pin connections. Please help? Thank...

Yes just fixed mine. Went to radio shack bought a gigaware sata 3.5 external enclosure.
Took the harddrive out of old enclosure. pryed off external alluminum case to expose a panel that sticks out to the side where the broken usb plug went. Wiggled that off then placed in new enclosure fits good. secured with old screws. plugged it in and it works great. The new usb plug is much sturdier. The external case cost me about $40.00 and some change but Im glad i retreaved my data. I will never buy another seagate. Hope this helps...Alan

Hi there i hav ea maxtor onetouch 4 mini 120 gb.

Remove the hard drive from the Maxtor case, purchase an USB hard drive adapter case, and install the hard drive inside this case. Then you can connect this to the computer's USB port and if the hard drive is OK then this computer will detect it as an external USB hard drive, then you can open the folders and files and back them up.

Have an i/o problem with Seagate Momentus 5400.3 ST9120822A - 120GB how can I solve it?

Hi burak02,

There could be a million reasons that your getting this i/o error. First I would check the cable to make sure it's snug on the pins, and then my suggestion is to follow this link HERE and pick the question that best describes what your OS and equipment list are. This is a great spot to solve most of the problems, They also have software you can download to test the drive to see if it's dead or just loose.

Good Luck,

And don't forget to leave a rating

Thanks

Code 10. The device cannot start

Go to, Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management. See if the drive starts under Disk Management.
I sounds like the drive enclosure is shot. You may need just a case. Click this link: http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-0-2-5-EXTERNAL-HARD-DRIVE-ENCLOSURE-CASE-NEW_W0QQitemZ120099119775QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item120099119775

Or you can get the whole unit and swap out the drives so you won't lose your data.
