Hdd maxtor hdd 40 gb not detected

man, that's a small drive. You sure its a 40GB? Windows dropped down to command line could do a format on that. otherwise look up http://hddguru.com/software/HDD-LLF-Low-Level-Format-Tool/

Here we have two things to check and understand.

1) Is the Bios Detecting this hardware. Or is it that the basic Motherboard itself is not accepting the HDD.

2) The version of OS you are running and if the pug and play is able to detect the Hardware as the second stage of detection.

Do you see any hardware detection notification when you connect the HDD or when you Start running the HDD ?

I would like you to check these which will give you a clear picture of the issue.

Else please write back.. The Hardware on which the HDD is connected. Motherboard Specs, and also the messages or notifcations that you might be getting while trying to connect the Hard Disk. Good Luck.

the hard disk interface could be broken, open the hard disk case and use it as an internal hard disk as a slave in a computer to save your data

Instead of posting here, why don't you look for a dealer.
You can buy hard drives just about anywhere now - and it doesn't have to be Maxtor.

maxtor one touch 3 -500 does not detect on my macbook pro worked fine on my G5

You might want to try downloading this fix from Microsoft. http://support.microsoft.com/KB/908673, as your first line of attack.  The problem seems to be within your usb 2.0 hub on your computer.  See if this helps.

Simple you need to update your bios by downloading bios updates for you motherboard. Then it should recognise your HDD. The yellow triange just means your mboard does not have the necessary drivers to recognise the device. thanks
