Cd rom My computer is dell Laptop Inspiron B130. I can see movies on DVD but can not listen music from any CD.

Don't play what? Games? Movies? If you mean movies, you can try Artisan DVD player. This will only play DVD movies if your laptop has a DVD-rom. If you only have a cd-rom, no software will help you play a DVD movie. You can get the software free here:

Run and install it the reboot your system.

Now, with the cd/dvd not working, go to start and click run... type regedit and delete the upper filter and lower filter from this pathfile:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Restart the machine and cd/dvd should work this time, otherwise, you may need to replace your cd/dvd rom drive.

did you change the order in the bios setinbg?put the 1st device for boot to be the CD/DVD-rom not HARD drive, to get into bios try F2., ESC, ,F12 . and in the bios setup change the order put 1st boot device to be CD/DVD-rom, then try again to setup Windows.

did it play before and does the drive show in my computer

replace the CD Rom, they are available on the net. You may pay $35-$50 and you'll be home free. You may even find an updrade i.e. DVD burner, etc. They are also very easy to replace - one screw on the bottom of laptop and just pull the CD unit out.

I gues that your burner is combo and only burn cd-r not DVD-R. Maybe its only a DVD REader and cannot burn to blank DVD. Try to see the Rom Specification of the DEll for more information.

in restoring to the factory setting you need a recovery disc id the system is license to miscrosoft. if your have no recovery disk you should provide a windows XP installation bootable disk. insert the disc in cd/DVD rom and boot the system in CD/DVD rom.
