I have a side by side that frosts up in the middle back ofthe freezer and the frig part gets warm. I have $200 in it and still no resolution. Bought new in June '04. I defrost for 24 hours, turn it on and it will be fine for a month or six weeks, them frosts up again.

If you can locate the defrost timer and advance it to the defrost cycle you should be able to see the defrost elements glow behind the rear panel in the freezer. Do this before the freezer gets too frosted up. If you can't see the glow then there is a problem with the defrost heaters or the defrost thermostat. Unplug the frig and remove all the racks in the freezer. Remove the screws holding the rear panel on. Locate the two heaters and check the resistance. IF open, replace heaters. IF ok check resistance of the defrost thermostat. IF open when cold, replace defrost thermostat.
If replacing heaters always replace defrost thermostat at the same time. It will save you doing so at a later date

GE Profile PGSS5NFXA SS Refrigerator Freezer; the frig warms up?

The problem is most likely to be the defrost heater Check the back of the freezer compartment for frost If you have frost on the back wall of the freezer compartment you will need to unplug the unit and remove everything from.it next get several towels to place on the bottom of the freezer to catch the water from the melting frost Using a hairdryer heat the frosted area to defrost remove the back panel of the freezer under it you will see a frosted up mess after defrosting you will see one or 2 heaters mounted on metal brackets they unplug and can be tested using a ohmmeter or continuity tester also check the defrost thermostat an replace defective items.put it together you should be all set

My GE refrigerator GE GSL25JFPABS stopped cooling on both the frig and freezer sides. I pulled it out, took off the panel and cleaned around the fan. I plugged it in and it worked perfectly for just less...

you may have a defrost problem, check for frost in freezer, back wall, or pull off rear panel and check evaporator, it should have some frost on coils, if frozen all around evaporator, check glass element at bottom of evaporator, should have blue and pink wire going to element

Frig won't cool RM2652

You'll need to get in touch with the store you bought it from but Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay. Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

GE frig/freezer side by side about 5 yrs

Bad defrost timer, most likely. It is not defrosting the evaporator, and therefore, no air can be passed over it. Hope this helps

GE side by side ffreezer continues to frost over

A simple defrost may not be all that is needed. There is a piece that connects to the coils called a defrost timer or a " clixon " This is most likely the problem. Have it replaced and that should get you back in business. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have a Kenmore Cold Spot fridge, freezer on top. Fridge is warm, and freezer keeps freezing up on sides and bottom. I cleaned it all out, defrosted it, and it still freezes up and fridge still won't get...

Is this a self defrost model? Frost inside the freezer could be an air leak around the door gasket. Remove the back panel in the freezer and completely defrost the coils. Is the fan running in the freezer. That will make the frig not be cool. With the door closed peek in the gasket to make sure the light is shutting off, this will warm a frig also.

Hotpoint frig, top freezer motor runs contiunally, thermostat set in middle of temp. control. side of frig stays cool all time.[does not get warm as it used to] is defrost thermostat bad or timer?

niether. is there frost on back wall of freezer? if no look behind back wall and see if there is frost on all the coils when running. if less than 80% is frosty...freon. or is there frost covering back panel..if so then defrost problem would be correct. but side would be warm so I think not.
