I bought a garmin nuvi 780 secondhand about 6 months ago and have just gone to reuse it and it requires me to enter a pin number to turn it on.
This really annoys me as the gut I bought it off guaranteed it was legitimate but he couldn't provide me with the receipt.
Any ideas on a pin reset for this model.
Hi
The pin code is for thief protection and there is no way to bypass it, it would defeat the purpose of having it in the first place to protect the device from getting to the wrong hands.
you will have to contact the dealer or contact garmin, garmin will probably turn you down since you can't prove that you are the original owner.
there is noting we can do about the pin code, you have two options
1. find the code
2. go to the safe location, set by the owner, a location where the gps will not ask for a pin code, you can not find out the location without being the onwer of the device since you would have set it there.
Try a master reset to bypass the pin. The pin code is for theft porpoises. Here is how to reset to factory.
press the lower right hand part of the touch screen and while pressed turn the unit off/on. The system boots up and asks if you want to reset all the user data. answer yes or a master reset.
Unfortunately all the information i found, they say you MUST send it in with valid registration and proof of purchase for THEM to unlock it. that is straight out of their manual. wish i had better news for you. happy holidays.

Yes, I know that is what the manual states, however that is why I paid $13 to ask you guru's about a work around? Otherwise no need ever to ask Fixya again, is there?
I have tried both of these solutions, the master reset doesn't work. I cannot find a way to get the surrounding frame off the screen - to get to a reset button - any more precise ideas??? Thanks.
