Question about JVC AV-48WP30 48" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Red and Green lines

I have red and geen lines through my JVC rear projection TV, we had the convergence fix 2 years ago, what can be the problem now and is it worth fixing we only had the set for 6 years.

The only part we've replaced was a convergence board 2 years ago. That problem caused the RBG to not line-up properly and caused a 3-D affect. Like if you were looking at a 3-D image without the proper glasses.

This new problem kinda comes and goes. Initially when the TV is turned on, it's clear, then all of a sudden, we get red and green lines through the picture. Sometimes the lines go away, but always seem to return. I've not attempted to replace any parts other than the convergence board and was wondering if you could suggest what parts may need to be replaced.

    Thanks!

New- Tv given by friend said needed to replace card number stk 392-110.

have been picking up clues here and there on where and what to do.

Have 2 new ones ,finally found where they go.

Question, it looks like no soldiering is involved in this replacement, is this true?

If so, is just the heat sink compound all I need when replacing them? Do the pins just sit in there straight?

Did I see that a good number of these ( stk392110 B 2 E 8) can be knock off's? Any way to tell on them? Not sure where wife bought them and should i up grade to a different one?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank's

    Rv

We have a RCA D52W23 rear projection TV. Now the color looks like it is in 3D. A friend has the same problem a few years ago and bought a part on line and fixed it themselves. What is the part and where...

projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Sounds like your red is out of convergence. You may be able to adjust the convergence in the TVs menus. It may also be possible that the TVs convergence circuitry has gone bad. In that case it would be worth to have the TV repaired, convergence board are usually fairly inexpensive.
