Here are two different guides on how to do it. Note that the first one only works for the 5th generation ipod video. The second hack does "not work on Mac computers, and like many other iPod hacks, it doesn't work on the Shuffle, 2nd and 3rd generation Nano, and the new Classic or iPod touch due to higher levels of encryption." Please also note that this will void your warranty with Apple.

if this dose not work it is probably a hard ware issue and you need to get the ipod repaired

    How to Change Your iPod Background ...

    How to Change Your iPod Background
    With a bit of tweaking, the Apple iPodmag-glass_10x10.gif can be customized in a variety of ways, from the outer covering to the screen fonts. If you're tired of the background, you can use a program called iPod Wizard and some hacked firmware to change how your screen looks. The process isn't very difficult and it doesn't take long to complete. And once you've figured out how to do it, you can change the background to anything you want, whenever you want.

    Instructions
    Things You'll Need:
    • Computer with a Windows operating system
    • iPod
    • Data cable
    • iPod Wizard
    • iPod background firmware
    1. Step 1 Turn on the iPod and connect the data cable to the iPod and the computer. Start up iTunesmag-glass_10x10.gif. Choose your iPod and then click on the box in the "Options" section that says "Enable Disk Use" and click on "Apply." Disconnect the iPod from the computer when you're finished.
    2. Step 2 Download iPod Wizard, which can be found on the iPodWizard.net forum page, and install it on your computer.
    3. Step 3 Download iPod background firmware from Kankon.org and save it to your desktop or in another place that's easy to remember (you don't want to lose the firmware before you can use it to alter the background on the iPod).
    4. Step 4 Start up iPod Wizard and connect the iPod to the computer. IPod Wizard should indicate that it has located the iPod.
    5. Step 5 Click on the drop-down box beside "Edit Mode" and click on "Firmware File." Click on "Open Firmware" and navigate to the location where you saved the iPod background firmware. Click on "Open" when you've found the firmware.
    6. Step 6 Click on "Write," and then when it's done, click on "Write to iPod." Click on "OK" to make all confirmations and allow the firmware to be written to the iPod.
    7. Step 7 Disconnect the iPod and reset it. The resetting may take awhile, but when the iPod finally starts up, your screen will be different.
    jQuery('.article ol .image').each(function(i,e){ var $this = jQuery(this); $this.find('img').error(function(){ jQuery(this).remove(); $this.remove(); }); });
