Hi,
My unit turns on then turns right off. and the power indicator light is red.
Can I fix this myself?
Thanks
Am in this field for more than 20 years n would never suggest such a solution ?if u do not know about electronics plz do not poke ur nose .the black box is called relay,it protects ur amplfier, when u push the main switch the relay enters into action.if all the sytems r ok then it energised after which all the set wrks.wat u have done is u have blocked this component n the whole protection system is off.
May I suggest that you read your owners manual, last pages, troubleshooting.
If your power light is red, it is a microprocessor fault caused by a probable short in the wiring (speaker, etc).
Find that problem, then hold the cd and vid2 butttons while you turn the unit on. This will reset the processor.
DO NOT bypass or circumvent the power relay. This is a bad idea.
I had the same problem so I came here. I saw the post by Guest and started to look into that solution. It didn't work. But it did put me on the right track so thank you. I found the problem to Be a mechanical Switch in the back left corner of the unit (looking from the front display). Here is how to fix it.
First open the unit by removing the 3 screws from both sides and the 4 from the back.
next looking from the back of the unit to your right where the power cord goes into the back there is a circuit board. on that board there is a black rectangular box that is where the problem is
If you want to confirm this carefully plug in the unit and turn on the power if the light turns red and the unit doesn't turn on turn it back off and then on again but this time tap gently on the black box the unit may turn on for a short time. If it doesn't don't worry it is still probably the problem.
Next BE VERY CARE FULL AND GENTILE, using a small knife or screw driver pry open the black box from the bottom. there is a seam about 1/8 of an inc from the bottom be care full not to separate this switch from the circuit board.
Last step once you open the box you will see a solenoid switch using tape or any thing you want lock the switch to the closed position. after that you wont have the red light problem. But remember from now on you want to turn off the MAIN POWER SWITCH above the electronic switch every time you are finished using it.
Good luck I hope this helps
Dear friend, I think your wires (speaker and connectors) are laying or touching the GROUND, I had same problem, I lift them from ground level to the wall and passed the wires through the wire covers, and problem solved.

Minas

Harmon Kardon AVR100 When it worked fine. Hit the power button, the stereo would click then a short pause then it click again and be ready for use. With the problem power, click pause then click off. Tried taking all the speaker wires out nothing attached and it still did the same thing.
