Question about Toshiba 50HM66 52" Television

1 Answer

I have a Toshibal 50HM66 DLP TV. I purchased it about 4 yrs ago. It worked well for 4 months and the bulb popped, since then I've had to replace the bulb 3 times at a about $150 per bulb. The last bulb works, but periodically the TV screen cuts out and won't come back on. The control panel on the bottom of the screen shows one solid red and a blinking yellow light. I unplug the TV then let it sit for a minute or so and turn it back on and the screen shows ok. However it goes out again after an hour or more. This has been happening for the past few weeks. The TV also says the bulb has malfunctioned. How can I correct this problem?

I have had the same problem and after several trips to the shop I realised it was caused by humidity. The shop was air conditioned so the problem never happens there. A dehumidifier or air conditioner "solved" the problem.

Bp96-02069a - 72" Samsung DLP, 4 yrs old, purchased at Costco. Color Wheel needs replacement but part discontinued with no apparent replacement?Any Advice or is the $3000+ TV trash already?

You can see if one pops up on EBay or look for a parts set on Craigslist. I personally would sell the set for parts. I'm biased, not a fan of DLP's

Chris,

I had the same problem. I bought my tv at Best Buy and my warranty included a new bulb for the lamp. They only last about 2 yrs or so depending on how much you watch the tv. You can also buy replacement bulbs online that don't cost too much. BUT, you will need to replace every couple of years. The things you listed are exactly what happens when the bulb goes out. Hope this helps!

3rd lamp purchased within 2 yrs

There is a slight chance that you might have an issue with a defective ballast, I mean 3 lamps in 2 years, it's too much. The best way to go here is replacing the ballast, that might solve the issue.

RCA SCENIUM MODEL D44LPW134 IS MY BULB BLOWN?

If this is a DLP, which I believe it is, your bulb is blown. Look for an indicator light on the front of the tv. After you hear the bulb try to warm up two or three times the indicator light should come on and stay on steady.
I own a 57" Mitsubishi DLP and have replaced the bulb three times now. It was the latest and greatest technology when I bought it, but knowing what I know, I dont think I would buy another DLP.
By the way, get the bulb number then check ebay, by far the best prices.

LAMP JUST WENT OUT

I have a 57" DLP and have replaced the bulb 3 times in 2&1/2 years. I'm not possitive but I think I have 6-800 hrs on it total. Mitsubishi claims it a part they expect to go out, but the told me they typically last about ten yrs. If you have proof of purchase they will send you a new one for free, otherwise it'll cost you about $150 on ebay.
