I have a Royal VF880 paper shredder and some of the mounting screws came lose (due to vibration, no doubt), causing one of the motor gears to become stripped and rendering the whole unit inoperable. Any chance of getting a replacement gear? Everything else is fine and it's easy to fix, but without that gear, it's useless. I hate to join the throwaway society of ours! Any ideas??

This is the most common problem...people put TOO MUCH paper in shredders... the VF880 has plastic gears inside...having done this a number of times you may have broken the gears or stripped the "teeth" off the gears...open it up to see what damage has been done; once you know what is broken you can contact Royal for pricing and parts at 1-800-524-0799.
Does the motor run??? even in reverse???
If the motor doeas not run at all it probably PCB. If the motor does run but the cutting mechanism does not turn then you probably have stripped/broken plastic gears... open and check,...contact Royal at 1-800-524-0799 for parts assistance.
If the motor is running do the cutting shafts turn??? if not then unplug and open up the top to see if any gears are broken/stripped; give Royal a call at 1-800-524-0799 for parts and prices once you've located the problem.
You probably have the same problem we do.....the unit vibrated some of the mounting screws loose, causing the gears to disengage slightly and then strip one of them (plastic).....hence, no movement of the shredder, even though the motor is fine. I myself am looking to Royal for a replacement gear. I don't want to have to buy another one and it beats throwing the whole thing out....what a waste! Maybe they should start using some glue on the mounting bolts!
