My 14 month old Acer 5920 has been used almost exclusively on mains until last week when I tried to use it on battery. The green light shows the battery to be fully charged (100% shows when I click on the battery icon) but it only lasts for a few minutes use. I can fully charge it at night and by morning it has discharged. I've tried fully charging and then discharging a few times to extend the memory but this is only successful if I use the laptop straight away after charging, and even then it only lasts for about 25 minutes. I am a senior female and have limited technical knowledge
Thanks for your reply but it was not helpful as the battery has not been used. By the way, the spelling is basically and not basicalyThanks for your reply but it was not helpful as the battery has not been used.

Thank you for your latest comment. Yes, the battery has been in the computer all the time. Do I take it from your comment that it is better to remove the battery if not intending to use it on a regular basis. I wonder why the manufacturers don't stress this in the instruction manual because there seem to be many other people suffering the same problem.Thank you for your latest comment. Try remove the battery and unplug it from the AC. Hold down the power button for 35-45secs. plug AC back and see if you can power it back on. If not, the motherboard is shot.
This is a common problem with Acers but usually it is the battery and the adapter. Replace the battery as well as the adapter and you shouldn't have any issues. Surges can be the main cause for this or running the laptop hot has also been the culprit.
hi there i read your report. OK 1. check plug in connection on the computer to c if its lose. If it's not lose simply try a new power cord. thank you for writing to fix ya.
Your power supply or regulator in you laptop has gone south. sorry no quick fix for this one. It needs repaired and would include tracking down soldered connections.
Probably this is due to surge current happend in the circute, butter not to switch on your lap. consult the service centre. Its is better not use the same adaptor for more troble shooting.
Karen, I am not familiar with this particular model but deal daily with this same issue on the Lenovo Thinkpads...it is the battery. They can just go bad. Had one yesterday that was fine the day before, now won't hold a charge. It was also less than two years old. They seem to have a shelf life. I would check with ACER to make sure they agree, then order a new battery.
To extend battery life, you need to use the battery up on a regular basis, then recharge all the way. Leaving it plugged in all the time with the battery in shortens battery life.
