Really? here's the thing..try to check the display settings manually.press the menu button of your monitor then try adjust the contrast, brightness and colors as well to your desired level..if your'e using LCD monitors, these are very sensitive and can be easily damaged if don't handle it very well..don't press the auto button always because it will automatically adjust the settings every now and then..

I had the same problem, if this is the AL 1551CS...called a local repair shop who kindly saved me a $75 service call by giving me the solution.
On the control panel, the button on the right is 'clear', with a 'C', and the one on the left is the 'auto' button, with no symbol.
Press 'Clear' once, press 'auto' once, press 'clear' again, the press 'auto' again (do all of these slowly because the copier enters different states or actually 'resets itself' as you complete each phase).
Next enter the number '24' in the number of copies and press start.
Then enter the number '7' in the number of copies and press start.
Now press the 'clear' button several times to back out of all of those steps and the copier will reset.
Should be ready to go. If not turn it off and on to reset.
This may work for other versions of the AL series, but don't know.
Press "Clear" then "Exposure Mode" then "Clear" then "Exposure Mode" quickly like within 4 seconds. The exposure mode key is the far left key.
If you do this correctly the display will go blank.
Key in 14 as if making 14 copies
Press the print button.
Short version: C, far left, C, far left, 14, print
The machine should reset and run fine. This is a common "false" code on these machines.
If it comes back after a couple of tries the you have a thermal fuse or heater lamp failure.
Disconnect printer from computer.
Switch on printer.
Type quickly: C "Auto" C "Auto", than 14 (number of copies) than "start"
"Auto" is the second button from the left.

I think you have loose cabling somewhere. Try to unplug (and untangle) the video cables and then plug them all back together firmly. If this does not work and you know your machine is booting up properly, you might have damaged the monitor somehow accidentally.
