My toshiba A80 cannot detect a bluetooth phone near it though it has been on

Hi ttc81,

Please make sure that your phone's bluetooth is in shown to all mode and not in hidden mode.

Also check if there are any particular instructions in your bluetooth headset's manual for pairing a device.

If the above procedure does not work , try to pair the bluetooth with another mobile phone and if it gets paired , then it means that your bluetooth is not compatible with Nokia E71.

I see that you are transferring files from your Samsung Mobile phone to your Laptop.

• In Windows lower right side you should see your Bluetooth Icon near the time, for Win Vista and Win7 the Bluetooth Icon should be on the lower right as well but it will be hidden, Look for the arrow pointing up this should show you your Icons.
• Right click on the Bluetooth Icon then select Open Settings.
• Once the BT settings window is up the first box you will see will say allow other devices to detect this Laptop something like that put a check on it.
• Then click on Apply lower right side then OK.

After changing the setting on your Laptop try you Samsung Pone again and see if it will detect the Laptop now.
Note: if the settings above do not work try clicking on Start then All Programs on the list look for Accessories then look for Bluetooth left click on it then it should give you an option to send a file or to receive a file. this will only happen if there are no Bluetooth programs installed on the machine and Windows is the one running the Bluetooth device.
This also works for a desktop that has a Bluetooth Dongle on it.

If the Bluetooth adapter can detect the phone but not the Plantronics headpiece, then there's no problem with your computer or your Bluetooth adapter. The problem has something to do with the Plantronics.

Try to turn the headpiece off, then turn it back on. Set it to discovery mode, then try to detect it using your computer. If that did not help.

Try to detect the Plantronics, using your phone. That will help you in isolating the problem.

Aside from that, make sure that no possible wireless interference while you're searching for the headpiece. Cell phone, base of the cordless phone should be away from the computer while you're searching for the headpiece. Because Bluetooth and cellphones/cordless phones are running on the same 2.4GHz frequency RF signal. They might interfere with each other.

you need to go to your bluetooth setting and hit "SHOW" device, even though others are on and yours is on, you also need to show it, it will show it for a few minutes, then it will be detected. Then once that is done, hit add to pick up other devices, it will ask for a passkey, type whatever you want, I use 0000 and tell the other person the passkey, cause their phone will ask for it to connect..hope this helps.

Are you transferring a file via Bluetooth? There are reasons why this is happening.

1. Make sure that both phones are within the perimeter of the required distance.

2. Possible wireless interference. Bluetooth Technology is running in 2.4Ghz frequency, if there's another wireless device near the phones while transferring files, it would interfere with the Bluetooth phones. Example of devices that might cause the problem:

Cordless phone
Microwave ovens

3. It would be best if both phones are running Bluetooth 2.0, because if one of the phones is running on Bluetooth 1.1, the lower class (BT 1.1) might not cooperate correctly with the BT 2.0
