My Toshiba m45-s2692 laptop will powerup and then immediately shutoff. Any thoughts?

Could be bad battery, bad power supply, bad hard drive, bad RAM. Bad Video card. Try just with only the Power Adapter. If that works then the battery is no good. If that doesn't work, try removing one of the RAM Modules if two, and swap them about. Simply remove each of the perifrials one by one, until it at least stay on... Removal of hard drive will at least allow the unit to boot & say no boot media, would indicate a faulty Hard Drive, remove the DVD & slide it out, most of the things are secured underneath by a couple of screws or a latch.

Try starting in the Safe Mode; you can access a short menu using either F5 or F8 during the first few seconds after power on. That will load very little of Windows and you can troubleshoot from there.
You might first try booting again and recording the last lines of text as this may also be a clue to the problem.

Recovery Problem

Go to Microsofts website and download the Windows XP setup discs. You will need 6 floppies to complete this task. Then change the boot order to floppy, or USB floppy and you are good to go. It will start the recovery of the system. Read through microsofts how to section for more assistance!

I think my Toshiba m45 s2692 is overheating.

Can you acess the heatsink?
If you can try taking out the dust. Or use a air duster and blow out all the air.

I need help fast.

Booting to an external USB drive depends on your BIOS but as far as your monitor goes have you tried plugging an external monitor into the vga port in back yet? It may be that your backlight is non-functional and an external monitor will give you the work-around you need.
