Turned it on. A screen came up that said this: Recovery Mode____________________ Creative Zen Touch v0.0.8 1. Clean Up ...
Detach your player from the PC if it is connected, and turn off the player.
If the player stops responding, you can reset the player. To reset the player, gently
insert a thin object into the Reset hole located below the power switch. if that doesnt work try this:
I decided to open it up to check out the hard drive to see what
kind I would need so I could try replacing it. The data plug that
attaches to the hard drive itself was partially unplugged. So, I pushed
it back in all the way, put it all back together again, and turned it
on just to see if something different might happen. (I had it set in my
mind that the hard drive failed and I would need a new one, so I didn't
expect anything different to happen) And to my surprise, it worked just
like new again
when you get it working
try downloading the MP3 player recovery tool from Creative's website (the tool contains the latest firmware update available -- 1.15.03). Plug your ZV+ into your PC, run the program and let it update the firmware. Then format, reload your music and try it.

for anyone else who still have unusable devices and the device is not there for the firmware but it is for anything else do this:
1. Plug in the player.
2. Goto device manager remove it's drivers and remove USB Roots (dont worry they'll all reload)
3. Reboot and unplug the player.
4. After windows loads goto add/remove programs and uninstall windows media player. Select downgrade.
5. If it asks you to reboot do so.
6. Then locate c:\program files\creative and just manually delete the folder you can put it back on if you wish later but it's useless and outdated junk.
Now reboot. Plug the device in and install the firmware.
If this works as good for me as anyone else lemme know.

You will need to put the Zen into recovery mode and erase the firmware, then reload the firmware. Follow these steps:
To Erase the Firmware:
1. Get a paperclip and straighten it out.
2. Hold down the Play/Pause button, and put the paperclip through the reset hole. Release the paperclip while continuing to press the Play/Pause button until you see the screen change.
3. Select "Reload Firmware."
To Load the new Firmware:
Go to www.Creative.com/support --> downloads. Click through the navigation and download the latest Zen Touch firmware. Reboot your computer, then plug in your Zen via USB cable. Double-click the firmware icon and then click upgrade.

I have the same exact problem and I haven't the slightest idea what to do. This has never happened before - ever - and I've owned my mp3 player for 2 and half years. It's kind of retarded that Creative doesn't include a troubleshooting section in the manual. HELP!!!!
