You can choose any brand of replacement disk (Western Digital, Hitachi, Seagate, or Toshiba), provided it conforms to these specifications :
- form factor : 2''5
- interface : SATA
- size : at least 120 Gb, if your disc was nearly full, or less, depending on your storage needs.
Any computer shop can provide you with that kind of spare part.
They can also install the OS on the disk, with the drivers for your specific HP model.

Hello. Designjet T1100 disk failures are pretty common. HP has made it difficult to do anything with their HDDs by securing them with passwords. When a new HDD is installed, it also takes on the ID of the plotter and refuses to work in any other plotter from then on. LPS Computer has T1100 hard disk drives that have been modified to install and work properly and they cost less than HP is asking. If you've installed a brand new disc, you need to first install Windows, and then go to the HP website and download all the relevant drivers and install them.

The clicking sound most likely is the hard disk. It is probably faulty (known as the click of death).
Go into the BIOS configuration and see if the BIOS detects the hard disk. If the BIOS cannot detect the hard disk then the hard disk is faultu.
To get you PC operating again, replace the faulty hard disk, install Windows on the new hard disk plus the HP's motherboard device drivers and your programs.

it sounds like the drivers are missing
where it is showing yellow.
try and up date them drivers from the boot up disc.

I have a few questions for you first.1 did the new hard drive come with a disk,if so did you use it. 2 did you insert your recovery media into your drive and restart your computer

will not recognize the disk, (what disk? what drive, what disk,??)
floppy, PATA HDD, SATA HDD, or CD drive.?

will not recognize, USB ports. (in BIOS or in Tne OS)
what OS, windows 3.1? what/? what Operating System??????
what OS will not shut down, and installed by whom and what media>?

take this unstated PC and install the OS, as it came new.
This PC is so old its not supported by HP, now.
so find and install disk (media) and re-Install the OS.

HP has zero data on it, now, its too old.

You aren't using the correct install disk . The generic XP install disk can't recognize a SATA disk.You will have to load the appropriate driver during install. Here it is ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32001-32500/sp32492.exe

what could make your system hang is your hard disk. If the hard disk has a bad sector, then it will make the system to hang.

Observe the hard disk closely to know if it will bring any crackling sound/noise. This noise or sound indicates that the hard disk is bad.

So while considering other factors, consider your hard disk.
