What is the meaning of "dev. home error" on the Samsung CLP-300? It seems to be a common problem but no-one has an answer! It suggests that the developer unit has not returned to it's 'home' position after a print cycle, but if so, what detects this and why does it happen?
Dev. Home error
can be fixed by stretching out a solenoid spring on the power cord
side of the printer. The solenoid acts as a clutch to stop the spinning
developer actuator
at the right spot.
The problem is that the spring gets weak
over time / the cogs round out
over time and the solenoid finger is overcome by the spinning cogs, and
resulting in selecting the wrong developer.
Open up the right side (power cord side) of the printer (take off
top
cover, then take off side cover). Then, find a solenoid (little metal
square) that touches the white plastic vertical spur gear. Take the
spring off the solenoid. Now, put the spring back on - only this time
you will attach one anchor point to the middle of the spring as to
pre-stretch the spring for more tension.

Hi My printer's problem was solved thanks
Hossein Nemati
YOU ARE THE MAN!!! THANK YOU!!!
Thanks! Worked great!!! Tightened spring too much 1st time, but after little adjustment - perfect! For anybody else having trouble getting panel off, I also had to open front, take off 2 screws that hold top cover plate, popped it off, and then screws on panel. It then came off - with a bit of a struggle.
wow, this actually worked. thanks alot!
NOTE: The side cover comes off OVER the switch, etc. on the side. You have to lift it over the small catches on the side - carefully!
OK, this worked for me. A good clue toward confirming the diagnosis of this is that the printer "cranks" longer than usual on startup, before giving you the finger... er red light. Instead of stretching the spring I just found another one about the same strength, size, etc., and installed it as a second spring. THANKS to whoever posted this info and picture. RIGHT ON!!!
It worked perfectly for me. Where can I get a replacement spring?
This worked for me as well. The number of cranking sounds during the warm up phase has come down significantly after the fix. I made a spring with more tension out of the spring inside a ball point pen.
Took off covers (not trivial to figure out), stretched spring, reassembled,. Heard loud clicking sound and all lights were blinking together. Eventually the printer became functional, but now I have a paper jam problem!
I almost can not believe as I was ready to put my printer in trash... decided to try this out, as it did not print anymore... WOW!!! It is back! new cartridges on next order..
Hi thank yuo for your tip.. after many year i'm still using the cpl-300 in 2022!! and pre-stecing the spring now my printer works again..thank again

There is no need to stretch the spring.

Wonderful. It works for me. In spanish, it was "error inicio dispositivo". I was looking for fixed red light, and none of the other solutions worked for me. Thanks.
This was exactly the problem. I had more trouble opening the side than fixing the solenoid spring. I extended the spring by about 20% and it works fine. Thanks.
Wonderful . it was exactly solution . thanks
