I can't download the software that comes with the player. It skips to the end to "quit" and the components aren't downloaded. I haven't been able to use it since I purchased it in early January of this year.

You don't need a lot of the software - some of it is defunct. Make sure you have windows media player, and that your computer recognizes the player, and then you are good to go.

The following procedures will erase all songs on the player.
Check if the file system is NTFS. If yes ,format it to FAT or FAT32. - Connect player to computer, click my computer, right click on icon of mp3 player and select format.
You can also format the player in Windows Media Player tiself.
Connect your Mp3 player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "name of Mp3 player here 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
You may also want to check
http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads.aspx?product=25
for any firm updates - the above procedures in some cases undo the original formatting on the player, and a firmware upgrade will be required to replace the Mp3 player's formatting.

Critical setup file missing

The setup files are typically on your computer; what operating system are you using? If you are using windows 98 you will need the cd-rom with the drivers. If you are running windows xp you probably have a problem with spyware or a virus; could be some corrupt files as well.

Is your version of Windows earlier than Windows 2000/SP3? If so, the software will not run.
Are you running Windows Vista? If so, refer to RCA's website for making software compatible at:

CD MP3 PERAL

Not sure what you need help with. If you have XP or higher you can plug you mp3 into your computer and it will show up as either another driver or an MP3. To download music go to windows media player pick the music you want or put your own cd's on the media player then plug in the mp3 go to the sync on the media played drag the songs you wish to download to your player then click sync it will download them to your player. If you are using a MicroSD card follow the same steps just remember to download to the card.

Help getting my cd to install

The product was manufactured before Vista came out, so the labelling was correct at the time it was manufactured.

RCA does have a solution:
