You don't need a driver.


The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.


Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Nikon Transfer or Windows Photo Gallery.

That is the only Nikon software that supports Vista since your camera is "outdated".

Here is a quote from Nikon site:

• We had released a Windows Vista-compatible version of PictureProject, v1.7.5, for use with the models listed below, and all models that followed. PTP (models supporting the PTP protocol) and Mass storage USB transfer options can be used for camera connection. However, the camera's transfer button can not be used to transfer pictures over a PTP connection. Set the USB transfer option to Mass storage to enable the camera's transfer button.
  Currently, the new Nikon Transfer and View NX will replace Picture Project as our new Image Transfer and Browser applications. These applications support the same Nikon products as Picture Project.

• Switch off camera and remove memory card.
• Insert memory card in computer (if you do not have a reader, buy a USB memory-card adapter: they are not expensive)
• Open "Explore" and find the disc-drive which corresponds to the memory card (e.g F, G, H, ...etc).
• Copy the ****.jpg files to your hard-disc. If you double click one, your photo-browsing program should open and display the picture.
