Question about Panasonic KX-TG2000 Cordless Phone

1 Answer

Panasonic KX-TGA200B choppy transmit problem, static, pops and clicks.

I know that it's RF board and it could be easily repaired. It's very common problem in this model besides the defective keypad.
Anybody knows something about this model or maybe KX-TGA400, which is the same thing?

P.S. I'm Electronic tech. III and can deal with any complexity including BGA reflow. Just never dealt with the phones before.

Thank you.

Thanks for response. Actually I replaced sells in my battery from OEM crappy to rechargeable "AA" 2500mAh.
This is well known problem with these models and Panasonic techs are love to fix them, cause it's easy. Question is, I need an idea/hint on what could be wrong with RF board, and I'll figure out how to fix it. I can remove module in 5 min top. That's not a problem. Problem is what's next?

You should try installing a new battery and ensure it fully charges overnight. I just helped a customer last week with the exact same problem, and it was her battery. If the battery does not put out enough power to run the radio module then it will give the same symptoms as a bad radio module (even though the battery shows a full charge and works okay on another handset). If that does not do it, I can only recommend sending it to a repair facility (use google to search for cordless repair facility). If you try to fix the module yourself and ruin it, they cost over $60 each for a new radio module for that model and just looking at the module I don't have to tell you how hard it is to remove the entire module without tearing up the main board and replacing it. In this case you must know your limits. ie. I rotate my cars tires, change plugs, etc.. but I don't tear into the transmission when its slipping, I leave that for the guys that do it everyday. Good Luck.

Put SWR meter between your antenna and output, test wave length receive/transmit, might need a ground plane or center loaded stick.
Could be transceiver relay, try clicking mic fast, it should click out as fast as you key the mic.

Choppy Transmit - People cannot understand your or complain you break up....

Choppy Transmit is a common problem in this model phone. It is important to remember that you cannot hear the problem in the phone that has the problem as it is only in the transmitted signal. The problem is usually intermittent and effected by heat and humidity changes as well as vibration. If you experience the problem it will not permanently go away on it's own and will only get worse. As Choppy Transmit progresses, not only will your callers be extremely annoyed, bit it will start to effect the operation of the phone. The base unit will loose communication with the handset and may report it as out of range. You should also be aware that the base unit can also have the same problem. When your base unit has Choppy Transmit it will effect the sound quality in all, or most, of your cordless handsets. Once again... you cannot hear the problem in the phone that has the problem. This will often confuse people into repairing or replacing the wrong part. If you have noticed a problem with Choppy Transmit you will need to have the phone serviced. It will never just go away and you can never tell when it has returned.

IS there a way to check if my walkie talkie antenna is borken

The antennas break, most often internally at the solder joint on the main board. There really is not test other than it works poorly. You could wiggle it when transmitting and if you hear static, popping or other noise, stop transmitting at once! Transmitting without a working antenna can damage a radio. The repair is to take it apart and resolder.

Icom IC-7200 transmit problem on 1600.000 kHz to 1999.999 kHz

If the radio is made to be sold only in the US then the phase lock loop is disabled when your are trying to transmit out of the US band edges. Try looking up a MARS circuit mod for this model and it amounts to only clipping one end of a diode to enable the transmitter on all frequencies.

My turtle beach has static like noies when i plug it in to my controler

THis problem is usually caused by an older controller because the jacks are loose and don't make a good connection with the talkback cable. Try a new controller to see if the problem is fixed. Also, try cleaning the connections on the talkback cable with some alcohol to remove any corrosion on the metal.

Caller ID/CLIP) not working in Panasonic cordless

Well if the phone has been bought abroad and being used in India you will face this problem. this is because of the format of transmitting the caller id info being different. In USA it is STF and in India it is DTMF. You need a convertor in the phone line which is DTMF to STF. IF you find onw in Delhi pl let me also know.

The number 1 button will not work unless extreme force is used

This is a very common problem with the KX-TGA400B and KX-TGA200B handsets. You need to replace the keypad or send it out for repair. Google "KX-TGA400B improved rubber keypad". Do not use the original factory keypad, the contacts are to small.

This sounds like a radio transmiting problem. This problem shows up first as "choppy transmit" where custimers complane of you sounding choppy or "under water". Google "KX-TGA400B choppy transmit" to find out more.
