If ok with DVD, tighten the coaxial cable from wall outlet to cable box and if still the same replace the box. :)

We get gaps in reception when watching on demand movies. Is this a problem with the TV or with the cable service? (the screen freezes for a few miliseconds and then "catches up" and contiues)

you have a receiver and dish right if yes so the screen in freezing because the dish needs adjustement to get the full needed signal. anyway when the picture is freezing you can check the signal it should be weak

Sony lcd tv picture freezes

I saw the solution posted to your problem talking about the picture freeze feature on Sony TVs. I presume you're not touching a button on the remote when your picture is doing this.

Normally when a picture freezes it isn't the TV but the signal the TV is receiving from whatever source it's hooked up to. If you have digital cable and the company is having any type of technical difficulties with their signal, it can cause the picture to freeze. If you've ever watched TV with someone who has Dish or DirecTV while a storm was over-head, you may have seen it happen to their picture. However, if you're able to rule out the cable equipment and the cable company as being the problem, then there is something wrong with your TV. If your TV has this picture freeze feature the other guy was talking about, it's possible the feature is now malfunctioning . Whatever the case, if it's the TV the only troubleshooting you can try is to unplug the unit for 30 minutes. If that doesn't fix the issue, the TV likely needs to be serviced. Follow the link below and it will take you to Sony's esupport page. There you will find a phone number you can call, or you can chat with someone online regarding your particular issue. Good Luck!

Picture will freeze.

Either the disc is scrathed or you have to remove the cover and take a q-tip with rubbing alcohol and clean the lens.

Frames freeze every few seconds

Sounds like a weak cable signal. Contact your cable service provider and ask to have a tech check your incoming line strength.

DVD player freezes

If it's a very cheap unit, it's possibly because the machine can't process the information quickly or efficiently enough, thusly causing the picture to freeze up while the processing catches up with it. Friend has a $30 unit, which happens to constantly.
