My Mac will not store data on my wd external hard-drive

I have just purchased the WD (Western Digital) 320GB portable hard drive and connected it to my imac. When I try to move files onto the hard drive i get the message that my file could not be moved because "Elements" cannot be modified. I have not been able to store any data on the hard disk. After plugging in the hard drive via usb, the icon "Elements" does show up on the desktop
When I click on the "elements" icon on my desktop I get 3 files. "autorun", "autorun.inf" and "System Volume Information". When I click on these nothing much happens. Please help me sort out this problem so I can store data on the WD Elements Thanks Ercel Ozser

Take it back to where you bought it, and get a replacement,
or at least get them to demonstrate that it _does_ work, when connected to a Mac computer (not a Windows computer).

WD MyPassPort 320 GB partially dead after an attempt to make it Win8 recovery drive.

Maybe you can try to format it to see if you can get the space back. But one thing important is that you may need to backup your files first. If not, you may lose them. Or you may try some file recovery tool after you format your drive. This may be help, I've try it, workable. http://www.uflysoft.com/data-recovery-mac/ Hope it can help and hope you can get back your 320G back.

Plug hard drive from pc to mac now i cant open files on my pc and the icons have a short cut icon on them?

It appears to be a problem with the WD hard disk that has data that the PC cannot read.
I suggest you format the WD hard disk.
The WD hard drive must be formatted on a PC in FAT32 for you to exchange data between the MAC and the PC.
This will allow the MAC to see a PC hard disk and write files to the WD that the PC can open.

Why a wd elements 320gb external hard drive only registers 298 gb when connected to computer?

Because the remaining space is for the file allocation tables. That tells the computer where to look on the hard drive to find the files. It's like an index for the hard drive.
