Hoover WindTunnel Canister: Roller brush motor not turning

Hoover WindTunnel Canister model S3639: I replaced the belt for the roller brush but the motor that powers it doesn't appear to working. The motor's spindle doesn't turn (and there's no smoke or burning smell). The power cord from the handle to the power nozzle is plugged in tightly because the light in the power nozzle works. Does this model have a record of faulty roller brush motors? I'm not about to start replacing parts unless I know what the problem is. Jim, New Bern NC

Domvac, thanks for the information. Is this a fuse that I could replace. BTW, the shaft of the motor does turn easily.

Domvac, thanks again for your helpful information -- delivered so promptly! It sounds like this problem is more than I want to tackle, so I'm left with two options: 1) Find a Hoover repair facility and pay big bucks, or 2) Just remove the roller brush altogether and continue using the machine. After all, the brush doesn't affect the suction power (does it?) and the old vacuums didn't even have roller brushes. I think option 2 is my choice.

    Thanks again.

I have a Hoover self-propelled Windtunnel. While using the vac, I changed from carpet to bare floor and then back to carpet. When I did this the brushes would not turn. I cleaned the brushes and checked both belts to see if they slipped. They were both still connected and looked fine. I tried to switch the button from carpet to bare floor a couple times, but nothing. Any idea. Is this a major problem?

I have a Hoover Windtunnel Bagged Upright self propelled. The brush/roller has stopped working. I replaced the brush/roller belt (agitator belt) but that did not help. Both belts seem to be fine. Any thoughts? Do I have a fuse problem too?

These motors have a fuse incorporated in the field winding and it sounds like that blew. These motors sometimes overheat at the front bearing and the bearing will melt into the plastic housing. This will cause the fuse to blow. It sounds like that's your problem. You can remove the motor by removing the three screws on the bottom of the powerhead and then check the front bearing for any bubbling or blistering in the plastic housing. The shaft of the motor should turn easily.

I have replaced them before, but the fuse is actually attatched to the field and is not considered replaceable. If you take the top cover off the motor (remove the four screws) you can see the fuse attached on one of the windings. The black wire that comes from the motor is attached to it and then it is attached to the field. Check the fuse with an ohm meter. Also, check the carbon brushes. They don't use very long brushes and they can wear out pretty fast. None of these parts are available from Hoover. If a motor needs brushes, I have made them to fit and the fuse is available from most electronic parts houses. You can just take it out and wire direct but then you wouldn't have the protection of a fuse if something should happen.

How do you replace the beater bar belt on the hoover u 6626-900

It is not a "Beater Bar". Hoovers have brush rollers and are easy to replace. Turn the machine over and remove the 4 screws which hold the cover on, over the brush. Remove the brush roller. Slide the new roller through the small belt (self propelled models) and secure into slots (note: slots are different, match roller sides to correct slot.

The bottom of the hoover wont work. its not picking anything up and not spinning round.

You most likely will need to replace the belt on this model. There are 4 screws in the corners of the bottom power nozzle. DO NOT remove the 3 that are grouped together (these are the motor screws). once the top is removed then remove 3 roller cover screws. replce belt and reassemble in reverse order.

Describe how to replace belt on hoover windtunnel bagless

If you turn the vacuum so the bottom is facing up you will see the base plate that covers the roller brush. There will be four screws (usually phillips head), remove the screws and the base plate will lift off. You now have access to the roller brush and belt. Lift the roller brush up and remove the old belt. Place one end of the new belt over the motor shaft and the other end over the roller brush and put the roller brush back in place. Now simply replace the base plate and you're done! This models requires Hoover belt # 38528033 (single) or Hoover belt #40201160 (2 pack). You can get this belt at

Belt will not stay on hoover windtunnel s3765

The Hoover Windtunnel™ Self-Propelled models have two belts, a flat belt and the V-Belt. This V-Belt is the one that drives the Brush Roller. After about three months, most belts stretch out causing them to slip. This means the brushroll turns slower or not at all and the self-propelled becomes increasingly harder to push. It is recommended that both belts should be changed at the same time.

Belt Stretched on my Hoover Windtunnel Farrington upright model U6431-900

hi, In order to to replace the V belt the one that turns the brush, One must take off the bigger belt " drive belt" that goes over that hugh wheel towards the back. When a belt gets stretched they will not turn the brush very well. If you have bought replacement belts the bigger belt Drive comes 2 in a package. Then you have your little V belt that helps turn your roller brush over. Yes the belts don't last long on my hoover. For kpatr22101 When you rpelace that V belt it goes over the roller brush into a little groove on the brush and then over a plastic round wheel then you must put on that bigger drive belt that must fit over that hugh wheel towards back and smaller on in front. Yes it is hard to get on. the I hope this helps. Cindy G.

Brush on vac

I don't know how old your machine is, but the belt should be changed at least once a year and you should check to make sure the roller spins freely. There are bearings at either end of the roller and they will become contaminated with dirt and hair after a while and will need to be serviced. A new belt will help, but won't last if the roller is in need of service.
