I had one red line at the beginning, then another one the same red, then couple months and green one. I fixed it by replacing one of the board inside (140$) and the problem is gone. The same model PDP4216M. Any questions e-mail me at [email protected]

Often a signal might experience a super-quick "drop" in signal strength, and the display is automatically adjusting the now weaker audio signal to "mono" (temporary, as for best quality). But the dropout is usually so brief you will then see the "stronger" signal restored [full strength], and now the audio is "stereo".
It's like a "bump" or "disturbance" that occasionally affects the cable/satellite/OTA (antennae) signal being fed into the TV, and your display's attempts to compensate for the weaker signal [going to mono, then back to stereo once back to full strength].
Connecting it to your cable directly (bypassing the box) or an antenna would give you a true over-the-air signal, which would be proper MTS and would not give you any more pop ups.
That is actually not really a problem mine does the same thing you just have to tap the button let it go and keep tapping till you get to the acciured volume. You cant hold it down or it will take off and get loud fast i leaned that when i first bought it. Hope this helps.
Hello drifter,The design of the tv enables the auto search to detect any input signal you have selected. It could be TV (off air, video signals etc) so just switch on whatever inputs to the akai plasma befote you switch the Akai plasma on and let it do the work for you. just relax and watch the tv.
1. switch on the input eg video deck, DVD, VCD, or satellite dish.
2. switch on your AKAI PLASMA and
3. wait for the akai to search for your input signals. TRy this simple procedure and if it doesnt work just post back the message.
