It was working fine on christmas day until when i started it on on boxing day, it would not read any disks i have formatted the hard drive 3 times i have cleaned the lens but it still does not read any disks. can anyone help or tell me how i can fix it??
I think that we should all gang up and flood sony's inbox with complaints. I mean come on all of us are having the same problem. maybe if we do this we might be able to get something done. I bought my ps3 off of ebay so of course i have no original receipt so i am one of the unlucky people who have to pay the 149 to get their problem fixed.

Two things it could be. Either corrupted disc (formatting will not help this since it's caused by moving the unit while running, damaging the disc and not corrupting files) or your BRD is malfunctioning. If it is only on games and not on movies, I would say it's the HDD, if it's on everything, then the BRD. You can get repair parts on Ebay for the BRD by punching in KES-400AAA and it takes about 15 min. for an expert and about an hour and a half for a newbie to replace. Good luck.

Yeah you need to send the ps3 into the sony. there has been a lot of problem with the 40GB ps3 the BLUE RAY lens is what has been going out. Once that's out nothing you can do about it. Another **** *** thing is you will have to pay $149 to get a refurbished ps3 NOT a NEW one. This is why i deal with Xbox nrothers and sisters!

I insert a movie or game and the game will not read it at all.
Taking my ps3 back for repair, the disc drive is broken or the laser has gone, thankfully i insured it. i have read alot of posts with people having the same problem. i have only had it 4 months this should not be happening. i was in the middle of a game when it said please insert disc, which was already in there, i took it out cleaned it and tried again, it wouldn't read it, tried blu-ray and other game discs and it wouldn't read those either, mine is a 60gb ps3 but alot of 40gb ps3 have the same problem recently.

We had a problem with XBOX 360 outside of warranty which Microsoft agreed to replace no arguments.
This system is 13 months old and only just out of warranty wonder if Sony are going to be as cooperative when i contact them tomorrow.

Please help. Electronic companies continue to ******* in the ***. My ps3 stopped working and the only phone number I could find to call disconnected me after 5 minutes of navigating through the rediculous automated menu.
