I fixed a similar problem I was having. It requires a little work.

Take out the four screws from under the broken speaker. Carefully remove the cover, separating the speaker from the base. The two are wired together so don't pull them apart with force. Then remove the single screw, which is much larger the the previous four, and separate the speaker from the top cover.

If you chose you can remove the wires from the speaker, they just snap on, but its not required.

What I found is the speaker issue is not with the wire or the power, but the speaker it's self. On the back there is a big round metal piece. On my speaker that piece was pushed towards the front of the speaker. When I looked at the good speaker, that big piece was all the way back. So I simply pulled it back and presto, instant fix!

I hope this works for you.

I have the exact problem listed countless times in this thread yet the magnet in the non working speaker (the volume control one) looks exactly the same as in the working speaker. It doesn't seem to be able to move. Any other ideas of how I could fix this issue?

    Thanks

Thanks so much for this solution... After reading your comment and looking at the faulty speaker I realised I had exactly the same issue, , and I also pulled the big metal piece back - instant cure! Amazing and saved me buying a new set of speakers. Thanks again :-)

This solution absolutely worked for me. I can't tell you how nice it is in this throwaway culture of ours to be able to open up something and FIX IT instead of throwing it out and buying another one. Thank you, francis_8!

I just want to confirm that the solution above from francis 8 works perfectly. We have two sets of Creatures in our offices, one had been shelved (by someone less persevering than me) due to this problem years ago and my set started this trouble a few days ago. Troubleshot everything, every cable, setting, combination, spare speakers etc - nothing worked. Opening the offending speaker and pulling back the metal weight behind the speaker cone was the solution for BOTH of our units.
Big smiles all around :-)
Note - When you've opened the plastic shell and loosened the speaker from its mounting, the the big round metal piece/magnet sits within the actual speaker 'cage', slightly behind the speaker cone. It's tight but movable and can be pulled all the way back as far as it can go inside it's housing, away from the speaker cone.
Not sure why it gets pulled forward, but it isn't fixed in position and so could clearly get bumped by dropping the speaker or a reasonable impact of some sort. Once bumped forward it would severely limit cone movement and therefore volume.

Thanks for the solution !!! :)
I don't know why but maybe a kind of electromagnetic force pulls that metal cover downwards? I pulled that back, and now it works fine !! :))

Worked for me, too! Thanks very much for this, it saved me the cost of new speakers.

I found this forum and followed the above advice. I can't believe it. It worked! I pushed the metal piece back and my speaker was restored. Now I do think the system starts to show its age but I still contend that the Creatures are the most ambient speakers I have heard for the desktop. Plus they look like Darth Vader.
Thank you thank you for the marvelous solution. It saved me much $$ I could not spend.

I stopped having sound coming from the speakers. I checked and we are not on mute, and the volume is turned up high.

Make sure all your connections are tight and you have power to your speakers...Then go Start>Control Panel>Sound and Hardware>Sound, after you are in here make sure that your speakers are selected as default device.
Hope this helps, pls rate

People can hear me speak but I can't hear them

Sound inducers do go bad. Normal the same audio amplifier is used for both the ear piece and the speaker. Since the speak does work, it sounds like the ear piece has died.

Volume is non-existant on LG VX 4400

When you press vol up & down it will indicate "ringer ear jack." This means the phone is stuck in ear jack mode expecting a wired head phone accessory. Remove the battery then unscrew and pull out the antenna and the black plastic sleeve. Then remove the for small torx screws and carefully remove the back. Take a tooth pick to the back of the ear jack an bend the retainer pin back. Put everything back in reverse order and it should work fine.
