Paper shredder Brand new DX OP102971 strip-cut shredder and it has worked on 3 pieces of paper. It makes a clicking sound when in the "auto/on" possition and a slice of paper is placed in the feeder, but, that is it. I have no manual and no way to trouble shoot. Can you please help me? Thank you, Teri Ericson

Works in reverse mode, does not shred, will not go forward and only makes clicking noise. Was working fine. Is a new machine, seems forward gear stuck but will go reverse ok. Amber light on left comes on when paper is inserted.

Sounds like you probally have a broken gear on the drive portion of your shredder can't be more specific because I only have info on Fellowes brand shredders. You may have to contact manufacturer for more info.

Motor runs, shredder wheels don't move

Unfortunately if the motor is running but the shredder wheels are not moving you have probably stripped or broken a gear. Most of the time I have had trouble finding new gears for any brand of shredder unless it is a high dollar model. You might be better off buying a new shredder than trying to fix this one.

Why does my paper shredder make a clicking sound when I try to shred a piece of paper?

Try putting a piece of paper in enough to start it running, but not so far as to go into the shredder. See if it will run for a minute or two. Sounds as though it may be over heating.

Stuck shredder

1. Turn the shredder off and unplug it. You DO NOT want to be poking round in those sharp blades and have it accidentally switch on!
2. Take the top off the shredder and place it on a big piece of newspaper, or somewhere you can easily sweep up mess.
3. Begin by getting a pair of tweezers and taking pieces of paper from one end of the shredding blades. This will loosen it up and give you more room to get the rest out.

4. Carry on tugging the strips of paper out. It helps if you don't just pull a clump, but wiggle it from side to side. This will get the whole strip out, not just the top.
5. If any pieces are curled around the blades and you can't free them, cut them with a knife and then tug them out.
6. Once it's mostly cleared, put the top back on and switch the shredder on. Put it in Reverse Mode so it will spit the last pieces for you to remove.
7. If it's cleared out, continue shredding:)
Hope this Helps!

Does it make a difference which shredder oil I use? There are so many. I have a Tech Solutions cross cut TS8000.

You can use any kind of shredder oil. They are all priced so differently, I use fellows brand for my royal shredder & it works just fine.

Royal 85x crosscut shredder stopped working

Some shredders aren't designed to shred anything more than paper. Credit cards, staples, paper clips and the like could have jammed it up. Try running the shredder in reverse and oiling the blades. More help with paper shredder oil here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Paper-Shredder-Oil

If you can't get the paper shredder up and running, it looks like you might have to pick up a new paper shredder. Paper shredders can be pretty cheap though, great guide to cheap paper shredders here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Best-Paper-Shredders

Help my paper shredder is not working.

I personally work with Fellowes brand shredders, but it sounds like you have a paper feed sensor issue. This may be a mechanical or electronic sensor located in the center of the paper feed slot. If it is electronic it may just need cleaning(qtip dipped in rubbing alchohol. If it is a mechanical sensor check to make sure it has not been broken or it may be stuck because of paper that has become wedged behind it(you may need to jiggle the switch a few times to free it). If none of this works you may have a burned out switch or a bad pc board, contact manufacturer for more info.

Shredding stops after 2 or 3 inches

If you have a strip cut machine it may be a problem with the gears. if it is not a strip cut it may be overheating due to not being oiled. First check with your manual to make sure you are not exceeding your duty cycle some machines only have a 2min on and 10 min off cycle,

Royal Shredder

there is a small micro switch in about the middle of the paper slot, make sure it is not jammed, it should move freely and make a small clicking sound with the power off.
