Re: salton perfect touch electric grinder - thermal...
This is most likely a thermo overload, and can be replaced, make sure that there is no short circut before replacing it, as it will only blow again if there is a short. This part can be purchased at any Radio Shack store.

If NO LIGHTS come on and not a single thing operates, I too would say that it's most probably the THERMAL SWITCH, activated when the motor gets too hot and is in danger of damage. A very cheap electronic device, quick and easy to remove and replace.
Yes, if your electric cord was extremely hot to touch is not common. It's posing danger to your unit and to your entire electrical system that may cause fire. Please let a qualified electrician inspect and repair your unit. The unit thermal fuse may not functioning that automatically switch off or cut the electric power of your unit when it gets too hot. Thank you for asking.
Maybe carbon brushes or motor. Unplug. Unscrew and pull back cover nearest cord. Brushes should be touching rotor, the copper segments, and not too short. Smell for burnt offerings from the motor. Some tools have thermal protection too. See if there's a thermal fuse, which looks like a small shiny rod with a wire each end. It could be inside sleeving. On an electric motor, this is usually embedded in the stator, or field windings.** This may have blown if grinder got too hot.. **Would need complete strip-down to inspect. If motor is cooked, get wallet out. Motor-parts/repair labor may cost more more than a new grinder. Carbon brushes: Take sample to store, with make/model of grinder. Brushes fairly cheap. Hope this helps, Clive.
Hi Remove bean hopper Remove grounds hopper Remove timer knob on the side Turn the grinder upside down There are 4 slits on the outside edge. Insert a screw driver into the slot and pry gently outward with a little downward pressure on the outside until the side slips a bit. Repeat on all 4 slits and the shell should slide off. There
is a fuse on the side of the motor that will blow and stop the motor.
It is a thermal fuse and should be replaced by a qualified tech. The thermal fuse is to protect the motor its a 104C
You will have to disassenble the grinder by removing the screws from the bottom of the grinder. You should be able to get to the thermal fuse once you gain access to the insides.
Well worth attempting the repair if you have the replacement thermal fuse needed and can handle a soldering iron to unsolder and soldering needed to remove and replace the failed part.
The thermal fuse isn't like a normal glass tube automotive fuse, but you should be able to get a replacement one from Radio Shack, if you can't get one from the manufacturer.
Hope this helps you get it fixed and best regards!
Open the grinder by removing both knobs. The front knob is held in place by friction. Use two flat head screwdrivers to pry it off. The side knob is held in by tabs you have to push. Pry forward to expose the tab, and use another screwdriver to press the tab, and use the other screwdriver to press the tab on the other side. Now look at the bottom of the grinder. There are four tabs on the outer shell, use screwdriver s to pry the tabs to separate the bottom of the grinder from the shell, and pull off the shell. Your fuse should be attached to the motor wiring coil.
