I installed a new program on my Dell Inspiron 2650 today using a USB thumb drive. I removed the thumb drive while using the program and got an error message. So I put the thumb drive back in, however, the laptop eventually went to a blue screen that told me it was dumping memory and I should restart the laptop. The laptop froze on this screen (it's done this before), so I had to pull the battery to get it to power off. Now upon trying to get the computer back on, it will get to the screen that loads Windows XP, but it won't get past that. All the necessary green LED lights are on, and there is a clicking noise that I've never heard before during the start-up process. I am able to use the F-2 key to enter the "start-up" mode, but I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to do here. I've tried powering it off and back on with the USB drive I used earlier both in the USB port during start-up and without, with the same results.
During the loading process there is a blue error screen that flashes on for a second, but it disappears so quickly that I can't read what it is telling me.
Try booting into safe mode, and uninstall the program
to do this: right before the windows xp logo shows, rapidly hit F8 on the keyboard, you should get a screen that shows the advanced startup options, after you see this, use the arrow keys to select 'Safe Mode' and hit enter, the computer should boot successfully and you can uninstall the program.
NOTE: if you hit F8 too late, perform a cold-reboot (hold down the power button until the computer is off and then turn back on) and try again
