Computer died - will not reboot - even to show system bios.

The computer died, and when restarted it won't even show the system bios/setup screen. Have determined that the monitor is fine. Will not boot to a CD or any other drive. Power supply shows lights, and CD drive receives power when turned on. The computer is approximately 2 year old HP a6300f. Other details:

Motherboard manufacturer's name: Foxconn MCP73M01H1
HP/Compaq name: Napa-GL8E

Is this a mother board failure?

I had a similar issue which was caused by the modem. I pulled the modem and all was fine. After that I decided to upgrade to a Cooler Master Case with a 500w PS and an Nvidia 9500GT 1GB video card. Also bought 2 Sony SATA DVD RW drives and replaced the slow HP drive. It's a screamer now. It used to be an m94040n.

Had this same problem a year ago. The factory hard drive has a known failure problem. Contact HP support to see if your computer is still under warranty, and if so, they will send you a new replacement.

1) Look at the bottom of the Mercury logo screen when it comes up.

2) Memorize or write down the -> enter BIOS Setup, or enter CMOS Setup key.

3) Restart the computer.

Let it go to Windows, then Start > Turn Off Computer > Restart.

Won't go to Windows? Hold down the CTRL and ALT and DELete keys AT THE SAME TIME. This will restart your computer.

AS SOON AS the monitor screen goes blank, (Windows is restarting), tap on the enter BIOS Setup key repeatedly.
Tap in 2 second intervals.

Hear a series of beeps? They are Stuck Key Error Code beeps, and you are causing them. Ignore the beeps.

Computer is off?

AS SOON AS you press the Power On button, start tapping on the enter BIOS Setup (CMOS Setup) key.

The enter BIOS Setup window goes by F-A-S-T. The above method/s will get you into BIOS Setup.

Cant access bios to change boot order to reuinstall windows 7

Boot the computer and watch the screen. It will tell you what key to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. You have to hit the key when you see the message or it won't work and you will have to restart.

It also shows you which key to hit to change the Boot Sequence or Boot Order. But you have to hit the key when the message appears on the screen or it won't work and you'll have to reboot. This is a temporary 1 time change for the current boot cycle. When you change it in the Bios or System Setup it's a permanent change.

The ThinkPad 2647 8MU will not restart. After a screen that shows IBM Thinkpad, then a black screen comes up that says: Error Fan Error Press <F1> to Setup. If I press <F1> it...

Your system fan has died and need to be replaced. You can look in your bios for a setting to ignore fan speeds, you may or may not have one depending on your bios. But be careful, if you can bypass the fan error, you risk causing harm to your computer by overheating the processer.

Entering bios setup

Occasionally, most computer owners will need to access BIOS on their computers in order to change or update the computer's most basic operations; such as memory and boot order.

Different computer manufacturers will have you press different buttons to access BIOS depending on the model you have. For example, on my laptop, I press F12 to enter the BIOS setup utility.

Here's how to figure out how to enter your computers BIOS setup utility. 1
Turn your computer on or shut it down and restart it if it is already on.
  • Step 2 As soon as the computer starts up, watch for a message that informs you about which button you will need to push in order to enter setup, aka BIOS.
  • Step 3 The opportunity to press the correct key to enter BIOS passes by quickly, so you need to find that key and press it before the computer moves on to the next stage of booting. If you miss your chance, just restart the computer and try again.

You can always access BIOS, even on computers that dont have an operating system installed. This is because BIOS is part of your computer's motherboard hardware and has nothing to do with Windows, Linux or whatever operating system you may be using.

    Screen black on reboot

start the computer and when the computers splash screen shows (dell) etc. tap the F8 key repeatedly until you see the multiple startup choices. Scroll to "safe Mode with Networking" and select it, you will see the operating system listed as the target operating system, click that (hit enter) start in safe mode. When it boots do you see the screen with no problem? if so then the resolution may be wrong on the normal start up. On the dektop in a clear area free of icons, right click and scroll down to properties, click on settings, then move the resolution slider to either 800 X600 or 1028 X 768. click on yes to change the settings, restart the computer by hitting start > Turn off computer > restart. Reboot it normal mode (just let it boot as you would normally) If you can see the screen, you are all set, if not there is another issue to deal with.

Cannot find primary or secondary drives

you need to enter the BIOS as the computer starts by tapping del or the keycombo your dell asks for to enter startup or BIOS setup, i vaguely remember f2 or f10, but the combo is posted on the screen as you start the computer.
once in the bios, the first screen should show your harddrive on the primary and your cd rom on the secondary. If you can reset these to "auto", restarting the computer should auto detect them unless a cable is lose inside or you have a virus . try this and post again here...

    System reboots

Blue screen usually means memory problem or critical hardware conflict. You could have a damaged memory module, or dust might be on the way of the memory.
