Well, if it's to small for you to push them back on you are going to have to take stuff off so you can get them on there or you may just want to try a pair of needle nose pliers Make sure you unplug the printer before doing either on of those.

How to fix carriage jammed to the right

For as I know, most HP carriages are driven by a belt. The detection when the end is near, is measured using a light sensor and a transparent ribbon with small vertical lines on it. When this ribbon get smudgy these errors might occur. Try to clean this ribbon with a dry cloth. When you disconnect the power when the carriage is somewhere in the middle of the printer, you can gently move the carriage to clean the complete ribbon.

Hp error message 0xc18a001

Here is a fix I found on the internet, can't specify as to it's reliability, cause I don't have one of those printers.

Gently remove the side cover of the printer. Start by opening the top cover and inserting a small screwdriver in the small tab slots. Going around the edge of the side cover, gently pry it off, being careful not to break any of the plastic snap tabs. You'll have to pry the front piece under the nameplate, also. Once off, gently remove the two white ribbon connectors just below the top cover. Turn the unit back on. You will get an ink carriage jammed message. Turn the power off and reattach the two ribbon connectors. Turn the power back on and the ink system failure message should not reappear and the printer will go through its set up program and be functional again.

first of all , i love these machines in comparison to the new hp's, now onto your possible solution, in the back of the carraige unit, are four parts , they attach to the carraige belt, well, sometimes these four small piecec break, causing jamming, the other issue maybe the encoder is dirty and needs cleaning, and last, one really fun, is the actual carriage holder, black frame for all electrinics and holder for ink cartridges, well that can wear, its enough to cause a slight tweak during carraige movement, and lastly, yes the carrige motor does fail, you can check just by shaking it, and seeing if carbon falls out of the holes near the electronic connector. as a repair person, i check everything., hopefully keep it simple, check encoder first, then everything else second.

Carriage jam means the carriage, where you put the inks, can't move right to left properly. Sometimes ink on the clear strip behind it is the cause. You can carefully clean with damp Q-tip, and check also that the cleaning assembly on the right where the printhead parks, is not stuck.
