Hi,

You need to get into the bios and change the startup so that it will boot off the CDROM,

Depends on PC but press the del key during startup or the f2 key will get you into the bios , bios screen is normally blue , change the boot order, some PC can prompt for boot order by pressing f10 suring startup.

Put in the XP or VIsta or what ever it is so that it boots , now select repair and this will sort the problem.

Regards
GeWiz.,

My Monitor shows out of range problem when we restart our computer and i m using windows XP on that computer

Hello,

Okay there are a couple of possible ways to fix this. Of course I am assuming I know what is wrong.

If this problem just started happening out of the blue for no apparent reason then try this:

Restart you machine. While it is booting (but before is shows the windows logo) start tapping the F8 key. If you do this right you should get a menu with a number of Windows boot up choices.

One of the choices should be 'Boot in Safe Mode'. Use the Up and Down arrows to highlight this choice and hit Enter.

When Windows gets ready to boot the Desktop in Safe Mode it will first ask you if you want to run System Restore. Do so.

Pick a restore point before the trouble started. This MAY fix your problem.

If this fails to fix the problem there are so other things you can try.

Follow the same instructions as above but when the boot options menu comes up after hitting F8 instead of selecting 'Boot in Safe Mode' instead select 'Enable VGA Mode'.

If this lets you get to the Desktop of with you monitor working then right click on an empty spot on your Desktop and select 'Properties'.

Then click on the 'Settings' tab (on the far right). Then set the resolution (slider in the lower left corner) to what ever you usually use.

My dell dvd isn't working. drive doesn't show. ran diagnostic and everything seems fine.

First use the following steps:

Use the following link, scroll a little and click on Fix It

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Click Run in the File Download dialog box and follow the steps in the wizard

When completed restart the computer and check the CD/DVD drive

(you may need to run Fix It twice)

If it fails, there is a manual method to edit the registry. Let me know so that I can follow up further.

Dell - No icons or start button

to get your Icons back try this.
  1. Right-click the desktop.
  2. Point to Arrange Icons By.
  3. Click Show Desktop Icons.
I would also try this.
Another quick shot, is goto Start, Run, type "msconfig", and click the tab saying DIAGNOSTIC. click apply, restart, and see if your icons are there.

Then I would run a virus scan. you could have a virus on the machine. I recommend MalwareBytes for virus removal. you can get it at www.Download.com

NTLDR is compressed -- on my emachine laptop -- I seem to be in a vicious circle here.

You can try to fix the NTLDR compressed issue by repairing it using the Windows XP OS Installation Disc

1. Restart your computer, make sure that the boot priority is on the DVD/CD Rom drive
2. Press any key to boot from CD...
3. When the Welcome setup shows up press "R" to go to Recovery console
4. Press 1 to choose the drive where the OS is installed, or a different number if your computer is configured for multibooting
5. Just press enter for the password, but if you have administrator password type in your password.
6. Type this command without quotes "attrib -c ntldr"
7. Restart your computer and it should fix the problem, if not, tell me what happen
