whenever youve got problems with your charging unit, check out if the capacitors are busted. but i its not, dont take a risk and buy a replacement instead. lets just avoid accidents with that. hope this helps.

Most likely the actual charger unit has failed and is not supplying power to the cable or LED, therefore no charging will be possible. Buy a new charger unit.

No Power on Hp 620 Laptop

If the battery does not charge then the problem is likely the charger.
If you can borrow a charger instead of buying a new one you can find out for sure if the problem is the inside the laptop its self or the charger.
Remove the battery and hold down the standby button for a whole minute to drain any remaining power in the model. replace the battery , attach the new/borrowed charger lead and see if any activity happens ie, sound, lights...ect. This is the first thing someone does in a repair shop and its to diagnose where the issue is comming from.

Sometimes it comes on and other times it won,t unless you unplug it and let it sit for a day

This is one of the most common signs of a failing main power supply, the failure likely due to cheap electrolytic capacitors. These components can vary greatly in quality and if the cheapest are used in certain circuits, that can cause them to lose capacitance and gain in unwanted impedance until they can no longer fulfill their purpose.
Unless you want to learn a new trade, I would recommend you locate the supply inside your set, this shouldn't be too hard, these will have larger than average-sized parts, be on a separate board and visibly related to the incoming AC.
Hitachi will likely still have replacement power supplies for sale or possibly repaired supplies on an exchange basis. If you must buy new, don't toss the original as these can be repaired by most competent techs and if they are honest, the cost should not be too high (under $50 US) as I have personally repaired many hundreds of this type at prices of $35-60 US.
These boards are usually made by outside suppliers and just plugged into Hitachi's product with plugs that defy cross-connecting so you should be able to unplug the old and plug in the new, saving the labor cost. If you feel unsure after seeing the guts of your set, just take a number of photos before disconnecting anything.
You may be able to buy a 'pull' (removed from a scrapped set) for less than new but you can't know if a supply is approaching the same state as your own.

I would say that it's highly probable that it only needs a new battery. As far as troubleshooting goes, that would be the first step. In many devices the power supply is not enough to power the device alone; but, the battery just has to be able to hold a residual charge to be able to run the device. This usually means that the powersupply is 'trying' to charge the battery. If replacing the battery doesn't work, then it's possible the regulator inside the device is not charging the battery properly. It's also possible, if it only needs a battery, continuing to use it like this will eventually burn out the regulator as it's always running on high. So, step one: Buy a new battery, should be fairly inexpensive nowadays. You could try alternate suppliers on the internet, you take your chances when you buy on eBay, however, the cheapest batteries are often found in Asia, but can take a month or more to arrive. But, it is the first step. Often, you can find a reputable repair company, they'll fix the regulator for a small charge above the cleaning charge, say $25-$50 + cleaning and shipping and handling. But, try a new battery first, as it appears that what little is left in the battery is failing, and if you keep doing it you can cause the power supply and/or regulator to fail too.

My PC won't run with ac /dc power!

Hello. There is a hardware failure with the laptop not the AC charger. AC chargers have some range of protections of their own. If the power requirements of the laptop are bigger then what the charger can handle, the charger will turn off. Also other parameters can bring the charger offline. In your case, you have a problem with a small chip, the battery charge controller unit, witch regulates the amount of current required to propperly charge the battery. When this thing fails, the charging requirements for the battery are reported rong and the AC charger is forced to give more power then necesary. This results in disconnection of the AC charger ( an internal fail safe of the AC charger) and the laptop to swich back to battery power. When the laptop is turned off, it can charge the battery because the power requirements are low, having all processor, main board, hard disk etc turned off. Therefore the AC charger can handle the load. However you will need to have it checked by a service center as it is a hardware fault. Both AC charger and laptop needs that check. The charge controll circuit needs to be replaced probably. It will be a somewhat expensive repair. Don't buy any other battery untill you have the laptop checked. For more aditional info please post back. PS. Sorry for my bad english, I am from Romania, it is pretty hard for me to explain tehnical stuff in english.
