KVM switch is ghosting images on the monitor.

I've just installed an IOGEAR kvm switch. It worked fine for awhile but now I'm getting a ghosting effect with all the images and letters.

There can be a wide range of reasons causing this issue. It can be a bad cable, firmware issue or something else. You best bet is to go back to the supplier for support. I use KVM Switches all the time. I have purchased quiet a few CAT5 KVM Switch and IP KVM Switch solutions from KVMSwitchTech and they work great.

I would try with a firmware flash,...... this most of the time resolves issues with OSD issues.

Dear sir good day try to disconnect all of the KVM switch and then try use one pc only and trace for the bad cable ... and if all are the same then you must go to the warranty center and ask for replacing the KVM
thank you

Are you using the same cable set? If so, then the first advice stil holds. If you are using completely different cables and switch, then suspect the monitor itself. Or possibly the video card is not pushing enough signal anymore (or too much) try a different monitor if you are able, and or a video card. The Narseman

I have been using my Iogear kvm switch for almost 2 years now to switch between a desktop and a laptop, both Windows XP. I unplugged the laptop in a hurry to go do a presentation, and plugged everything...

This almost sounds like the display setting on your laptop was changed to an external device. Most laptops are designed to be hooked up to an external display, such as a monitor or projector, specifically for presentations. You can alternate the display options in the following ways:

  1. Laptop display only
  2. External display only
  3. Laptop+External clone
  4. Laptop display + extended desktop on external display (dual monitor setup)
Check your laptop display settings and make sure that it's not in presentation mode (options 2-4) before connecting the KVM switch to it. It may be recognizing the KVM switch as an external display in option 4 mode.

My iogear KVM switch will not toggle between machines

Try following the this link and see if it helps. It helps to explain how to connect the keyboard to the KVM since the keyboard port is the only port that will recognize the port switching commands.

New IOGear GCS632U KVM inop

First, disconnect the KVM switch from the computer(s). Disconnect also the keyboard and mouse from the KVM switch, including speakers (if there is). Leave the KVM disconnected for 5 minutes.

Before you reconnect the KVM switch, make sure that the computers are turned off. Re-connect the KVM switch to the computers, and then reconnect the keyboard and mouse.

Turn on the first computer, followed by the second one. If you are still not getting any light indicator, then the KVM switch is dead.

You may contact IOGEAR through 866-946-4327.

Thank you for using FixYa!

I just purchased an iogear GCS1742 2 port kvm Switch. The keyboard is the only piece of hardware that will not work. I have two cpu systems and one monitor. The keyboard has a PS2 connector with a usb...

Bill,

Due to the keyboard emulation that the GCS1742 uses it may not work with a PS/2 to USB adapter. If possible try using the KVM with a basic USB wired keyboard. This will tell you if the KVM is in working condition or if there is a problem with the actual KVM. If the KVM does not function correctly with a basic USB wired keyboard then I would think there is a problem with the KVM.

I am looking for the hotkey combination for our HP 336044-b21 KVM switch from a iogear KVM?

IOGEAR KVM switches uses Scroll Lock for the hot key. The models of IOGEAR KVM switches starts the letters "GCS". I don't think that your HP 336044-b21 came from IOGEAR.

Anyway, if that's an IOGEAR KVM switch, you may quickly press Scroll Lock twice + Enter (for two port KVM).

Scroll Lock twice + port # + Enter (for 4 port, or 8 port KVM).

NOTE: You need to verify the brand of your KVM switch by referring to the user manual of it.

Thank you and good luck!

I know i hooked everything up correctly, the mouse and keeyboard switch work just fine but, when i plug in the monitor the screen goes blank.

With the GCS632U is recommended that you keep the KVM focus on a computer while it is booting. For example if both computers are turned off you can turn computer one on and the GCS632U should stay on computer one until it comes to a desktop. This allows the KVM to pass the monitor information and that may help.

IOgear KVM not working with laptop

First, you have to make sure that the KVM switch is directly connected to your laptop, and NOT to a docking station.

This KVM switch is designed to work with direct connections to the computers.

Second, the light indicator on the KVM switch is not an indicator for power. It's an indicator to see which port is active. If your laptop is connected to port 2, but the focus of the KVM is in port 1, then the port 1 will have a light, not the port 2.

You may also refer to the user manual of the KVM.

Thank you!

Repeated IOGear KVM switch failures

As a wild guess, it sounds like a static discharge MIGHT be affecting the switcher causing it to crash.

Try increasing your humidity to 40% and grounding yourself before touching the keyboard... This is the season for these static electricity problems... get nipped all the time and you MAY not even feel it to be enough to zap the switch.

Switch starts switching back and forth between computers itself

There are no firmware updates for the GCS62 also the KVM appears to not have a firmware upgrade port. If the KVM is auto-switching have you tried hitting the ESC key or Space Bar? That should stop the auto switching.

Iogear KVM Switch Not Working at All

jerk_shop is correct, the GCS632U does get the power it needs to function from the USB ports of the computers it is attached to. Make sure the USB portion of the KVM cable is plugged directly into a computer without the use of any USB to PS/2 adapters. You will also want to make sure that at least one computer is turned in order for this KVM to function.
