Camera will not format Memory Card. When I turn on the camera it states, Momory card requires formatting. When I try to format it says it is formatting but then goes straight back to the original message that the card needs to be formatted. This is the same memory card that I have used in my camera for over a year now. I have tried a different card with the same problem.

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

When I turn on my camera, in the middle of the screen in a black box it says " DCF full error" what does this mean and how do I get it to go away? I have tried resetting my camera and formatting...

    Hello

    Thank you for using FIXYA!!!

OK, firstly let me state what exactly the error message you are receiving concludes to:
"The "DCF full error" occurs when you use memory card in your camera which is formatted in another camera. The error is the result of improper formatting of the memory card which leads to incompatibility of the card with the Samsung camera."

Now, i the resolution for this specific problem is to format the memory card in the Samsung camera.

I know you stated that you have already formatted the card, but you did not state if you formatted the card in your camera, or on your computer.

Try the above solution and let me know if the problem still persists.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any further questions.

    Kind regards

Memory card requires formatting, press continue then it states that it will delete everything on memory card, then it does not format, it tells you that you need to format memory card. press cancel and...

Hope you have this figure out if not here goes. Sounds as if the camera is caught in a feed back loop. As long as you have down loaded and saved your images on the computer go ahead and format the card. When it says delete everything on the card select OK and click the start button everyone is happy again. By the way all new card and card after doenloading to the computer should be formatted in the camera. Never format in the computer and deleting images one by one is just a great way to totally mess up a memory card's mind. Format, Format

Camera does not recognize memory card

Did you format your memory card before you tried to use it? Format your SD card in the camera first and see if you still have the problem. Also, check to make sure the switch on the card is not in the locked position.

    Internal memory??

Highly recommend that you consider using a card reader to download you pictures. You insert the camera's memory card into the reader, and then insert the reader into a USB port on your computer. The card then shows up as a hard drive so that you can simply copy/paste or drag your picture files onto your computer. Card readers are much more faster in downloading pics, do not require the use of your camera's batteries, and provide much more reliable downloading of the pictures (fewer errors). They're also VERY inexpensive these days. Here are some examples of CF card readers from Amazon:

    http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=1223745821/ref=sr_st?keywords=cf+compact+flash+card+reader&rs=172282&page=1&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Acf+compact+flash+card+reader&sort=price

Also, if the card has somehow become corrupted, take no more pics until you've recovered the photos. Take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for:
    http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/recovering-those-accidentally-lost.html

You will also need to use a card reader with this software. Finally AFTER you've recovered your photos, recommend formatting the card IN YOUR CAMERA to prevent this from happening again. Note that formatting will totally erase your card. Turn on the camera, press the menu button, select the tools menu. Go down to the selection that states your CF card's memory capacity and select it. Then follow the formatting prompts.

    "Memory card requires formatting"

This error message means that the card is corrupted or formatted for another digital camera. Turn off the camera. Insert a new card or format the card. CAUTION: Formatting deletes all pictures and videos, including those that are protected. Removing a card during formatting may damage the card.
