uC = a continuous unbalance condition of the wash load.

Because you are posting in the Fixya Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer forum I’m going to assume your machine type is a FAV6800A or FAV9800A.

For those machine types I feel you are experiencing a clutch malfunction. Can you confirm the machine model number and let me know if you want to try a DIY repair. You only need basic hand tools and skill sets to repair. See this post for what is involved and this a most recent post of a forum members repair for a dC error code condition in Spin Cycle which related to the uC error code in Spin Cycle.

SOURCE: maytag neptune tl won't spin codes dc and uc

The clutch needle bearings may need to be lubed, this was my fix;

I just did a repair on my FAV6800AAW by lubricating the needle bearings in the clutch pulley hub, the tub displacement sensor checked OK per the service manual check. I was getting dc/uc errors in the spin cycle, washer was purchased in 7/05. I have basic mechanical skills and used a socket wrench to remove clutch pulley, just follow the service manual removal steps to remove the clutch pulley. Pull the plastic cover off the clutch pulley and inspect the spring, clean/lube needle bearings and the clutch hub coupler that drives spinner shaft. I used WD40 I may need to re-lube down the road with a good light grease. It took a few tries for me to get the clutch pulley to stay on after re-install and power up, getting the clutch pulley seated properly is the trick. I did not remove the washer tub for this fix, I believe I saw a posting where someone did. I just leaned the washer back to get a better reach angle, it is a tight work area. I did not want to junk 4 yr old $1k machine with out trying a fix. If you want to work on this model get the service manual, I found a link on this site, good luck!

SOURCE: Nepyune Tl FAV6800AWW Spin error uC

I have the same problem with the uc code. I am grateful for this sight and the information regarding opening the top and front. Exactly what do I look for when attempting to determine whether or not the drain is blocked.
Thanks for any info.

SOURCE: Error Code showing UC

Hello plthrsn64 ,
You should open up a separate problem for this but I will post as a solution for the Lid Lock Issue.

For the FAV6800AW that is you machine type correct? The "LO" console error is "Lid has failed to unlock". I haven't experienced the "LO" error code to the display but this is the direction I would go in. I feel you have a signaling problem back to the control board in the console from the lid is unlocked contacts in the left/right Lid Locks.. I would disconnect the left and right lid lock plugs to the washer. The right lid lock is not necessary for operation. The left lid lock is the important one because of its dual signaling function, the Lid is closed signaling from the magnetic reed relay and lid magnet and the lid is locked signaling from lid locks slide switch in the lid lock. I think you may corrosion build up in the left lid lock such as the Pic’s I will attach show of other users. The left lid lock is subject to corrosion brought on by the bleach dispenser.

You can start by un-seating the right lid lock and leave off. Then try un-seating and re-seating the left lid lock plug a few times and see if that will get you back in service. Be careful those plugs are difficult to pull out. Please remove power to the washer first then you will need to lift up the washer top to access the lid lock plugs. Here is the process, use the service manual for additional support.

The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.
Raise the top of the machine. Insert a flat blade putty knife approximately 2.5” from the left and right sides of the washer top, depress the spring tabs securing machine top to the washer base. See page 33 of the SM for putty knife insertion point.

If seating/reseating the left Lid Lock a few times doesn’t help I would remove the left lid lock per the Service Manual, carefully open up the left lid lock and see if corrosion is the issue. The plastic latchs around the lid lock enclosure can break off very easily be careful when opening the lid lock. If you have severe corrision I would use some WD-40 to clean up the contacts with a Q-Tip. The cntacts for the Lid is locked slide back and forth with the activation of the solenoid in the lid lock. You may have to rock back and forth the solenoid to clean up the slide switch. Just watch how the relay parts sit in the lock the latch arm will come out and you will have to fit back together to operate correctly. Sounds complicated it is not, it's just difficult to explain. If you have to replace the left lid lock here is a link.

SOURCE: Help! I have read all the info on the UC error. Our

Rick, I on lunch break at work so this will be quick response. Removing the clutch is where I would have you start. Have you thrown dc errors in the past. I would remove the clutch and clean up and re-lube the One-Way roller clutch bearing. I'm concerned about the spin cycle noise it if you have not had dC unbalance errors in the past. When you remove the clutch let me know if your series FAV6800AW uses the upper bearing ring on the clutch. If so inspect re-lube if not rusted up and re-install with the re-lubed One-Way roller clutch bearing in the Clutch Pulley assembly. If you still have the loud noise on spin up of the wash basket I think you may be approaching an outer tub bearing replacement job. If you could let me know the first two digits of you serial number of your machine. Those digits represent your series of machine. Here is a link to the post on Clutch maintenance/replacement that I put together. URL just in case the hyper link dose not work http://www.fixya.com/support/t2070219-model_fav6800aww_will_not_pump_water_out Shout back if you have questions I?ll try to help?. Rich

Have a UC code. Washer starts than stops during cycles when the drum is moving. also hear a clicking sound Tx, Bob

If the clutch fails the first thing noticed is a UC or DC error displayed and there is no drain or spin.

If you are seeing the above error and having a problem with spin and drain then the most likely cause of this is the clutch. The clutch fails to lock down the spinners and the basket is unable to go into spin and without a 90 RPM there is no drain.

Is your FAV6800A banging around in Spin cycle and erroring out with the UC error code? What happens if you do a Spin Only Cycle with no clothes in the wash basket? Will that Spin Only cycle complete?

I need to know what condition causes the UC error code and what parts the repair service swapped out.

Could one of the Sensors be the TDS (Tub Displacement Sensor)?

Neptune Washer Spin Cycle

If your FAV6800A or FAV9800A wash tub is banging around in Spin Cycle of the Wash Cycle and your Control Board signals a dC or uC error code to the console I feel you have a Clutch malfunction. I feel the TDS is working as designed with the unblance error code shut down.
See my Clutch Fix post for more info related to dC and uC unbalance errors with the FAV6800A and FAV9800A TL’s and the repair action…….Rich

Maytag Neptune washer has the error code of UC during the spin cycle. What is the problem?

in the Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer Forum so I assume the machine type is a FAV6800A or FAV9800A correct?

Most issues are caused by a Clutch malfunction if the machine errors out with dC or UC unbalance error codes during the spin cycle. If your wash tub is banging around during a Spin Cycle and the TDS and Control board are working as designed the Control Board will shut the machine down with an unbalance error code dC or UC.

If the machine model is a FAV6800A LED console or a FAV9800A LCD console version it can be fixed with basic hand tools and some DIY effort. If you call in a repair service you are looking at $300 to $400 ballpark if they have a clue of how to troubleshoot the issue. If you DIY cost could be $0 if you have a can of WD-40 around a dab of lithium bearing grease to $75 ball park for a Clutch Pulley replacement.

See this post Clutch Fix and if you want to DIY and save/extend the service life of your 1$K machine.

Washer appears to be going throught the wash cycle but the counter is not counting down and it goes no further than the wash cycle. Just continues to do this the whole time. Model # FAV6800AWW

Here are some handy links if you are going to DIY the fix.

FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

Are there any unbalance error codes to the LED display such as dC or uC?
When the washer stops can you place that wash load to a Spin Only Cycle and let me know if the Spin Only cycle completes. Are there any large tub swings in Spin Only cycle with that wash load that cause the Spin Cycle to stop with error codes dC or uC?

Let me know if you can to do some troubleshooting. It would require front panel removal so we can watch the Motor and verify it will rotate the Clutch Pulley CCW in the Spin Only Cycle. If you want to troubleshoot I will give you additional info to begin the process…….Rich

Maytag FAV6800AWW TL washer is throwing error code uC even when running empty cycle. It sounds like there may be a bearing going bad as it is more noisy than it should be when spinning. It stopped at 12...

Don,

I ask folks to give me some feedback when troubleshooting dC/uC errors with a feel for Wash Basket CCW/Spin direction drive system resistance.

It sounds like the Outer Tub Bearings are going which means you have a Tub Seal Leak that took them out. The Clutch One-Way Roller clutches are probably contaminated. I would bet a bit rusty and are sticking not locking up completely in Spin Cycle causing tumbler movement at the start of Spin Cycle. See my Clutch Fix post I go into a lot of detail for a fix and just what is causing the unbalance errors in Spin Cycle

You could drop the clutch out and see if you can clean up the bearings and relieve the dC/uC unbalance errors for a while longer.

Replacing the bearings is a bit more work see these post for what is involved. If your series is a 12 or above you may have to do as this forum member did.
http://www.fixya.com/support/t3973659-fav6800aw_sn_15_top_loader_r_nunit

Series 10 & 11 from what I have learned use the upper One-Way Roller Clutch bearing ring and not the integrated Lower Outer Tub bearing as in I believe the Series 12 and above do.

Series 10 Outer Tub Bearing work I and another forum member are working on. The links will give you some direction if you DIY. http://www.fixya.com/support/t4028403-just_replaced_new_clutch_fav9800aww

What are the first two digits of your Serial Number? Will be 10 through 17.

Post back if we can help I’m an owner like you not a repair person. I feel the cost to have the Outer Tub Bearing replaced will trigger you to make a replacement decision……Rich

I just replaced the tub displacement sensor on a Maytag Neptune TL and corrected UC errors, now the unit is stopping during the rinse cycle with a LL code regardless of the load size.

If it doesn't do this when spinning empty replace the clutch assy,it is actually the bottom pulley on the tub. the clutch doesn't lock the wash plates in place and they turn while the tub is spinning, but without a load it will spin fine.

UC code on my Maytag Neptune Washer FAV6800WW

HI. this uc code represents a no spin state of the unit. this is caused by a faulty Motor control assembly. you will need to replace the Motor control assembly. this will fix this issue and, restore the normal actions of the unit.

This Motor control assembly will cost about $219.00.
