I don't whether the built in microphone has indicator light, because the motion eye have it. another issue is when I am using yahoo voice call, I can hear the caller but they don't hear me.
Re: Vaio VGN-NW23SE no built in microphone indicator
Your computer has a built monaural microphone. check your sound settings to make sure the mic is on. if the mic is on and there still isn't any sound on the other end then you might try an external mic. they work better as far as quality anyway.

we need to determain if your camera is still installed properly. Click the start button now just above it you will see a rectangle search box in that type device manager click enter now in that list you need to find your camera (Imaging Device) & see if it's installed. if there is a arrow next to it this means there is something wrong possibly uninstalled or needs a driver update, so right click on it then left click on update driver hopfully that helps
Refer to the Sony support website to investigate whether you have the right driver installed for your Operating System. Should this not work and you are running a windows system try performing a windows update.
1. go to this site http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNFE770G
2. select what os (xp,vista,win7) installed in your sony vaio
3. go to cameras and download the driver for you motion eye
4. run the downloaded driver for motion eye
5. test it
First find your VAIO Camera capture utility and configure it to see both your webcam and your microphone/ to do this if VAIO Camera Capture Utility is not in your start list of programs, Click on start in the space search "VAIO Camera" without the quotes. it should bring up the VAIO camera capture utility. Click on it/when it opens click on settings/ click on the Cam/mic tab and choose Sony Visual Communications Camera in the drop down under preferred Camera/ Do the same for your Preferred Microphone/ click OK/Now click the little red x in the far upper right of the VAIO Camera Capture utility to close it. Now in your chat software either Windows live chat or Yahoo chat or whichever one you have. I have Windows live chat/ configure your video in there as well to use your motion eye and your microphone. You should now be able to chat live seeing and hearing your guest as long as they have the same chat program.Do a search on google for "Windows Live Messenger" if you wish to use that utility to chat with. If you choose Windows Live Messenger, in the main window click on tools/ click on "Audio and Video Setup".
