HP Flat Panel Monitor is dead!

I have a 19 inch HP flat screen monitor that is dead. It won't turn on at all. I know its the monitor because I plugged in an old one to my computer and it works fine. I plugged the monitor in and the power button flashed but went out.

The power supply within the monitor has probably expired. HP doesn't do spare parts for their TFT monitors as they are Full Unit Replacement items (if in warranty).

SOURCE: monitor compatibility

technically speaking, As long as your videocard has a vga or dvi ports (same goes with your monitor cables) you can use any type of computer monitor whether CRT or LCD. since the issue will go to your videocard used. : )

Monitor went out and only displays a black screen. The power button indicates that the power is on but no picture. The model is an HP f1905 19 inch flat screen monitor.

Use a flashlight and shine on your screen. Look carefully is you still see the image on the screen. If you do, this is an indication that the monitor is still working, but the backlight has failed. A common solution with backlight-failures is to open the monitor, and look if you see any "swollen" capacitors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague). If you see one you should replace it. Only open your monitor if you know what you're doing and have basic knowledge of electronics and soldering.

I have hp w1907 computer monitor. After window startup my screen go black, the monitor light is blue, so it's on. If I press the the monitor button off then back on.....the screen will show for a second...

x2 test monitor on other pc.
if its ok we fix pC>
if the pc drops the sync lines H/V the monitor goes to sleep mode.
and tells you that.
the old monitors 2004 have timer inside,
does the OSD menu button on front of monitor work
with PC on,? it must.
OSD = on screed display from monitor brain
if yes, makes sure any menu there has the sleep timer off.
if it has it.
this monitor is old older than 2010. and has CCFL backlamps then and older.
so use flash light to see if data is on the screen if yes.
then the CCFL tubes are bad or the HV card inside dead.

yup your your service manaual
advanced OSD page clearly show the power saver clock
turn it off now.
of you cant get the OSD to work find a good PC
plug it in and turn this off below.

sevice manual google is your friend, sometimes.

How to open the HP 19 inch flat screen monitor

You need to remove the stand first, and then using small flat screw driver to release the four tabs at the bottom edge of the monitor.
I myself never have to replace the power switch on these series yet.

Plugged in a new 23 inch LG LCD Monitor and cannot get picture

In additio to the fine help given by Mister.

If you have a DVI output on your computer get the cable for that and this will greatly increase the quality of your display.

Your graphics card should be able to autodetect a DVI monitor and suggest the best display type.

No plug in play... don't think their dead... do I need drives first?

no country stated or if not usa what is your line power?(volts AC)
your PSU is inside monitor not outside, so uses a simple line power cord. (just wires)
12 year old monitors, found, (dead)
page one of your user guide is clear, read it yet?
seems not.,
Auto-ranging, 90 to 265 VAC
1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz, 75 Hz (never higher) resolution settings.
those are very old monitors.. worth like $10 used.
if the power lamp shows wrong, the monitor is dead.
right button is power to the right of it is a power led that must glow.
the old monitors had CCFL backlamps before year 2010.
those are back lamps, that fail fast. 20k hours, fast. (short)
first is the power switch
2nd is a working PC with at least sync signals on 2 pins
Horz/vertical.
then the OSD screens work of not the monitor IS DEAD.
inside this OLD monitor is sleep time, turn if off with OSD menu's its nothing but trouble.
some have an OSD lock, so hold the menu key for 10 seconds
and it unlocks. button 2 from left is MENU.
see page 4-10
the guide is here. not too good , poor diagnosis sections

specs.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-l1940-lcd-flat-panel-monitor/427303/document/c00278650#AbT3

testing
power it on, LED power , glows.
with a PC working, say running any BIOS screen only....
or running, windows, in low resolution mode 1280 x 1024
if wise set the pc up to that first. not second.
then plug in the vga cable so the MOnitor only sees that signal above. (if you do above wrong, monitor shows OUT OF RANGE on the screen)

at mon.
PUSH the OSD button, menu, if OSD is dead the montor is dead.
OSD= on screen display., (yes the LDC has brain inside)
then take a flash light . point it at screen
see data now, if yes, in the beam is data the back lamp is dead
as are most 12 years old montors now.

see those 4 cream colored connectors bottom of this PCB
those are the high voltage CCFL lamps.
2 lamps 4 ends. the lamps are bad or the board 500 to 1000vdc
power supply is dead.

New video card installed, now monitor won't work.

  • A vary basic failure here.
  • the OSD tells you , pin1,2,3,13,14 are dead but that is what sleep does. kills video and sync.
  • no PC stated
  • no OS stated. windows 10? what? why must beg.
  • did you turn off all sleep and hibernate in your power manager
  • click CP, click power settings click custom power profile and set all that to OFF, do not turn off screen ever. XP to now.
  • did you look in this CP control panel, DM monitor list>?
  • see my monitor, its there and not bad, if it shows bad .
  • if f1903 is missing there then your OS does not support it.
  • Right click it (internet must be connected) and say up date driver and let W10 find your driver for your OLD monitor.
  • Did you know MS drops old hardware that the maker does not support now? this is all in the PnP rules sets. but on monitors there are magic tricks to fool the system if true. this.

vga-eqk4kg0rieheuxmlwixke1cc-1-0.jpg does your monitor work on others PC, with same OS
do tell that.
does your pc work with other monitors. bingo>?
is that hard to do find another VGA port, to try, ? on someone elses PC, we cant do that here, so..... only you can do that.
hp supports it
and has this program to run and test your display

http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-19-inch-flat-panel-monitors/447429/model/348757#Z7_3054ICK0K8UDA0AQC11TA930O2

last and best
ever call up BIOS?
boot pC and hit the BIOS key, called BIOS settings menus.
(HP F1,F9,10, or ESC) hint , it prompts you at boot.
does that work? omg it does so VGA is ok. right. 99% sure.
all in 5min work. you see it works
and then dies in windows x (what ever your X is)
if it dies in windows, here is the cause, (all causes)

VGA card is not bad, or overheated. bios works
1: windoz is virus infected tops that list. endless, to a fault.
2: PNP to dead, it plug and played, and killled the monitor driver or vGA driver, (less much less in w10,)
3: bad video drivers. (if hp get them from HP !)
4: internet dead, cant run PNP with no internet. not and win.
5: newer system DT< with expensive video cards the power jack cables fell off (this is only on high powered DT, like a Ausu M5a90x.
5b same deal video fan dead. overheated now.
6: PC goes to sleep, and is not anything to do with WINDOWS sleep
did you know the CPU has a sleep mode, it shuts down overheated.
some GPU do the same using the same magic hidden electronics in the GPU

if you had told what PC it was, id not have to broad band my answers. im sure i missed more,,, lacking
PC tag words.
or OS name and build.
