Its 15 degrees outside and my amana unit is off. every so often it kicks on by itself and runs for about 10 seconds then shuts off again. while it is running the control panel flashes FP, what is it trying to tell me? the reason the unit is off is because it only blows cold air on the heat side, whats wrong with it.

I was wondering the same thing about our unit until I found the specs online and read that it has freeze protection. When the temp goes below 40 degrees, the fan comes on to prevent damage to the unit.

Until now this unit has never had the compressor run without the fan. Is the compressor running without the fan a problem? If so, what can I do to correct it?

Possibly a tstat issue. Run system until satisfied, once satisfied indoor fan shuts down compressor still runs remove tstat face plate and see if compressor shuts down. Another issue could be a sticking contactor for compressor. With a meter you could check at the contactor to see if you lose your 24volts for cooling but contactor remains pulled in.

Why is my unit unable to cool my house more than 15 degrees below outside temp?

probably a tonnage issue. unless you have 12 inches of insulation in the attic i like to go with 400 sq. ft. per ton in the houston area. our humidity is so high it will not keep a cold enough coil to wring moisture out of air. all a/c systems are designed to operate at 95 degree ambient. when you get to 102 and more the effienecy drops off quick.

Dryer stops running

It sounds like the motor is going bad, but typically it won't start up right away after it shuts itself off.

4 ton Amana -heat comes on sporadic in spring and fall (Every season change) Heat worked through 20 degree weather. Thermostat at 74. Today is 100% humidity and 52 degrees outside and heat won't work. By...

Assuming this is a heat pump I'm guessing you have a bad temp sensor. Your outdoor fan is likely controlled by a temp sensor so it only runs as needed during heating. Fan not coming on and compressor still needs cooled therefore compressor protection kicking in?????

I have a 5 ton ac with two 10 kw heat strips. The problem is that the unit runs constantly on one stage with the temp. set at 66 degrees in the winter. The second stage heat will kick on if I manually...

Between two stages, the difference temp has been set up to call for second stage.. If you need immediate heat what you did is right. But again you have to reduce to your required temp. Hence, wait the second stage get started.

The humidifier only stays on for a few minutes even if it is on the highest setting

Not sure where you are located (Northern US?) but it really isn't cold enough for the air to hold much water. It is shutting off because the air in your home is already at 40-45%.

Amana Cooling Condensing Unit fan won't kick on

be aware that not repairing this asap that you are causing yourself more problems First I would change out the fan capacitor and see if this could be the problem. Secondly if the capacitor isn,t the problem change out the motor . By continuing to allow the system to cycle like this the compressor will take a dive on you costing more . Good Luck

Amana Cooling Condensing Unit fan stops spinning after 15 mins

Capacitor, dirty condencer coil causing the motor amps to run too high. But most likely worn bearing on blade side of motor causing it to pull to one side causing it to over heat and shut down. Sleve bearings should have no side play.

Heat pump blows heat half the time and cold half the time

It sounds like it is just going into the defrost cycle. Go outside and see if it is iced up. If it is, it reverses itself to melt the ice. Heat strips should come on if unit has them
