I also have the same problem with my 50v500, a pink/red fog in the middle of the screen.I don't know what I am going to do in the future but what ever it is Hitachi's name will not be on it. It is the polarizer film on the glas closest to the prisma behind the green panel which must be replaced. Any high quality polarizer film could be used but its some work to do this.
Sounds like a bad T-Con board which is the board at the Top-Middle of the set. I have also seen the display bad causing that problem in Lg's. Have it looked at first.
I would suggest to unplug the TV from the AC power outlet first, wait a couple of minutes to plug it back in. If that does not work, the main board is defective since is not providing proper video info to the main digital controller board (D board). The Main board part number is: TNPH0721AJS or TNPH0721ADS. If you need to verify the main board part number, you will need to remove the back cover of your plasma to check it out.

It could be the tint settings on your TV. Check your TV's settings menu for color/tint options. If you can't find it, break out the manual and look in the index for tint or color, then locate the page and it'll tell you how to get there.
Make sure the tint slider is in the middle, 0 or 50%, depending on your TV.
Best of luck.

The information is on the back of the TV or on a small white tag
on the side of the TV.
The problem with the set is that the blue gun has gone weak, and not emitting at par with red and green guns in your picture tube. Turn of the blue screen and get the grainy display on the screen (detach the cable) and enter into service mode to fine tune until you get a perfect or black and white grain pattern.
The green screen is caused by light hitting the back of the tv. Either move the tv to a location where direct sunlight will not hit it or put up strong curtains. As for fixing the problem, do a search for JVC green screen reset on AVS Forum, its easy to do just dont have the info with me now. Keep in mind if direct sunlight hits the back of the tv it will do it again. I have put up some good curtians and ensure not to open them when watching the tv. Hope this helps. I am Hayward, have a nice day.
