Could be several issues. If it is under warranty Sony will fix it for free. If it is not under warranty then you can try to fix it. Try the easy solution first. Clean the lens. You have to take apart your ps3, remove the blu ray drive and take that apart. There are videos and tutorials on how to do that. Get some lens cleaner, clean it with a qtip and put it back together. If that does not work then you can buy the laser lens, or the whole assembly either online or from ebay. Cost anywhere from $30-$70. If out of warranty and you want to send it to Sony I think it costs around $150 to fix.

the laser has shifted from where it needs to be and the good news is
that it is not that hard to fix all you need is a good repair guide.
You can of course send it in but the
disc reading issue you should be able to fix in less than 1 hour from
home.
