Good day,
The dryer start switch, starts the motor by bypassing the centrifugal
switch built into the motor. Once the motor is running, releasing the switch doesn't matter because the motor gets it's power directly from the timer to the motor thru the centrifugal switch.

Either the switch on the consul has welded the contacts, or the centrifugal switch in the motor has done the same.

To test, unplug, and access the start switch. remove one of the wires from the switch, tape it to prevent shorting, and try the dryer. If it fails to start, then it is the switch.
If it still does the same thing as before, it is the centrifugal switch in the motor.

There is a centrifugal switch inside the motor that is not working. The switch breaks the start capacitor and makes to line voltage so the motor will continue to run once the start button is released

Dryer won't stay running without holding down the start button

It may be the centrifugal switch on the motor. The push button starts the motor and as the motor spins up to speed the centrifugal switch closes to keep the motor running. Hope this helps.

I have seen that in those dryers before and it has always been the motor that is causing it to start without engaging the start switch.

After setting dryer to the drying time and when you put the clothes in the dryer and shut the door the dryer starts without pushing the start button.

you will need to chnge the door switch. that part is bad causing the unit to run without touching the start button.

My dryer runs without pushing start after opening door

Sounds like you have a faulty start switch.
Turn off the power to the dryer, remove the switch and then check the switch with a continuity meter to see if it is faulty. If it is then replace the switch
I hope this helps

Dryer turns on when botton held down

Motor has a "Run" winding centrifugal switch that may need to be replaced. Start button energizes the starter winding but when the "run" switch fails the motor won't keep running. Switch is easily replaced without taking motor apart.

Starts with asistance then shuts off.

A centrifugal switch selects the start winding, but the run winding is always selected, according to the wiring diagram.

So, it could be a bad centrifugal switch, or a bad motor. You can test the motor by measuring the resistance between the blue and white-orange wires (the run winding), and between the blue and violet wire (the start winding). Both values should be under 4 ohms.

To continue running, the motor run winding must be OK, the door switch must be closed, the belt switch must be closed, and the thermal fuse must be OK.

All this assumes the electronic controller is OK, but this is the stuff a handy homeowner can check before calling in the big Sears guns.
