Claris Draw v1.0v3 will not start with XP

I have used Claris Draw v1.0v3 for many years but not with the Window XP OS, I cannot even get the program to start. Is there some mod to a dll or running mode that is necessary to get the app to work.

OK, I have Claris Draw starting up (after a long wait) but trying to open any existing files causes the app to crash.

    Solution Found!

I found that Claris Draw files must have a filename of 24 characters max (including suffix). But, program will not startup correctly and open a file. Problem is that path+filenames (incl suffix) greater than 64 characters cause the app to fail.

Must move files to high-level directory before using (to limit the number of characters to less than 64). Otherwise, ClarisDraw works fine on my XP system.

Right click on the Claris Draw program icon and open properties box. Then select "Compatibility" tab.

Under Compatibilty tab, check "Run this Program in compatability mode for:"

Select Windows 98/ Windows ME option from drop down menue.

Make sure "Claris" folder is in C:\Windows

Now do following whenever you thereafter want to run Claris Draw:

Try to open the Claris Draw program and you should get message saying it can't find Claris directory.
In the message box, browse down to Claris directory and double left click it.
Then left click on any file in the Claris directory window.
Now left click on the Claris directory again, but hold the left mouse button down.
The OK button should stay lit while you are holding the left mouse button down.
While still holding the left mouse button down, press the "Enter" key on your keyboard.
Claris draw should now run.

This nutty start up procedure seems a little complated, but once you get the hang of it, it takes only a few seconds to do it.

I found that Draw runs on XP but I have to tell it each time it opens where to find the CLARIS folder, and when it does run it won't respond to the OPEN menu item. I can still open files though by clicking on the file to open, but it's pretty inconvenient. Looks like I'm going to have to run the program on my old pre-XP windows machine.

Can CLARIS MACDRAW PRO V 1.5~SEALED~SYSTEM 7 COMPAT~VINTAGE be run on windows, or is there a way to get a copy of Claris draw for windows

NO ! Forget it..
First it's an OLD MAC program, and not compatible with ANY windows.
Second It's obsolete. there is no manufacturer and no support.
You might acually find a Mac w/System 7 on it to use for this program.. I've thrown away 4.
But here's NO WAY to run it in Windows of any level - At this time.

Use Windows paint.. Or Google search for any number of Free Drawing Programs

I am unable to open Micrografx Windows Draw 6. I used it for clip art but now it won't open.

Hello, I had the same problem. windows draw has been working for years under Windows XP then suddenly impossible. I think there is a conflict with others programs i installed.
I found THE solution after reading many topics on the net :
Install acrobat reader 4 on your system. Then run acrobat reader 4. Last, run Micrografx windows draw 6 while acrobat reader 4 is running on your system too.
Maybe it works with a more recent version of acrobat reader but i didn't try. Maybe this solution works also with windows draw 5 but i didn't try.

CLARIS DRAW 1.0 print problem with Windows XP

Sounds like old software (1995) with a much newer operating system. I would upgrade to whatever is compatible with XP or take your OS back to what works with the software. I'd go with Corel Draw with XP. Vintage software has to be run with the same vintage OS to work properly. Hope this helps!
